The Centre for Torture Victims (CTV) is an international non-governmental organization based in Minneapolis, USA. Founded in 1985, CTV was one of the first organizations in the US dedicated to providing care and rehabilitative services to survivors of politically motivated violence and torture, earning international recognition as a provider of psychosocial training and direct services.
Since then CTV has worked in Guinea, DRC, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Jordan. Position:
The Centre for Torture Victims (CTV) is seeking an Evaluation and Data Officer to work as part of its mental health program for torture survivors in Dadaab. This professional will be responsible for the compilation, analysis, and reporting of confidential data collected, over time, by the centre’s counselors.
This professional will implement and maintain data collection systems, monitor the integrity of collected data, enter and compile data, conduct and interpret data analyses, and produce reports for internal and external evaluation audiences. The purpose of this post is to contribute to the implementation of the CTV program in the field, ensure that the project timelines are respected; the collection of clinical assessment, and that objectives and indicator targets are achieved.

Primary responsibilities:
- Data management: Enter and clean data. Maintain software associated with data collection processes (update, adapt and modify data systems as necessary).
- Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret data using SPSS/PASW for reporting and ad hoc analyses
- Monitoring: Monitor data and data collection processes to ensure adherence to data collection protocols, especially as it relates to clinical assessment measures.
- Communication: Work with appropriate supervisor when there is difficulty with data or analysis; communicate with counseling staff to ensure quality data.
- Reporting: Write and submit regular reports regarding clinical and training activities for both internal and external audiences.
- Other: Complete other relevant tasks, as may be assigned by supervisory staff.
Profile and qualification:
- Proof of Kenyan nationality
- Strong background in statistics, social science research, or mathematics; extensive university studies or degree in statistics preferred.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with MS Office products (e.g., Word).
- Extensive experience conducting descriptive statistical analyses (e.g., means, averages, percentages).
- Experience conducting inferential statistical analyses (e.g., t-tests, correlations, regression, ANOVAs) a plus
- Experience working with SPSS, also known as PASW, or similar statistical software; experience with Excel; familiarity with database software a plus
- Experience in managing ongoing data collection efforts preferred
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritize task and meet deadlines
- Good interpersonal skills and a team player
- Background or understanding of mental health preferred
- Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing program requirements, client needs, and political climate.
- Ability to live and work in Dadaab [CTV will facilitate for the right candidate to relocate to Dadaab, but there will be no travel benefits associated with this position; it is assumed that the candidate will be considered to be employed full-time in Dadaab.]
