Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • To ensure quality of treatment and care in the mobile clinic supported by IRS medical 
  • Provision of technical support/supervision and training to the medical and paramedical staff involved in medical care for people affected by the floods
  • Performance of consultations for adults/children
  • Conduct OPD consultations according to correct medical knowledge and IRs clinical guidelines. 
  • You should be able to do quality consultation related to basic ANC patients (like prevention/treatment of anaemia, UTI etc).
  • Ensuring the patient has proper understanding of the prescribed medication
  • Educate patients on related health issues
  • Rational prescribing of medication according to IRs guidelines and IRS essential drugs
  • Conduct 2nd level consultations and be the focal point for treatment of chronic and complicated diseases
  • Supervise and support consultations done by IRs nurse and manage the complicated cases, write referral to hospital for admission
  • Organise with the pharmacist the medical (drugs, medical materials and equipments) and non-medical (stationary, furniture…) material needs of decentralisation team by requesting in time and monitoring the stocks with the dispenser.
  • Ensure security and safety of staff at outreach sites.
  • Assure proper daily data collection and reporting concerning mobile clinic activities.
Qualification
  • Degree from a recognized university with surgical skills
  • Relevant further qualifications in medical consultation Training,
  • High level of integrity and ability to work as part of professional team

II. Organizational Context and Scope

In Kenya, IOM has since significantly diversified its programming since 2005. 

IOM currently implements interventions within the areas of emergency and post-conflict response, preparedness and response, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, healthcare and psychosocial assistance, assisted voluntary return of migrants, immigration and border management, migration and development, resettlement and repatriation, family reunification, counter human trafficking, assistance to vulnerable migrants, and labour migration.
 
III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities
 
Under the technical supervision of the Migration Health Physician, Chief Nurse/deputy, and overall supervision of the Regional Medical Coordinator, the incumbent will act as medical escort for refugees with medical conditions for the duration of their travel to final destinations in the US, Australia, Canada and other countries.

In particular, the incumbent will:-
 
1. Provide all necessary medical care and support of designated beneficiaries(s) - patients during the journey and accompany these persons to an agreed handover point;
 
2. Identify themselves to airline staff on check-in and again on boarding the carrier;
 
3. Extend general in-flight and on-the-ground support to passengers travelling under the auspices of IOM as circumstances require;
 
4. Ensure that designated patients are handed over to a responsible entity overseas and that unescorted onward travel connections are completely understood by the passenger, accompanying family members or continuing non-medical escorts, and partner agencies;
 
5. Accommodate any changes in routing or schedule imposed by the carrier;
 
6. Comply with standard IOM requirements for duty travel and entitlements;
 
7. Assume other duties as assigned, which may include meetings or briefing of national health or quarantine officials on arrival, the purchase of goods or equipment at the destination, or assisting in the shipping or return of such equipment;
 
8. Complete and submit the Escort Movement Report to the IOM Mission and the relevant MHD Unit involved within one week after the completion of duty;

9. Return the IOM medical escort bag once duty is complete, with notation of all medications or supplies used during the journey.

Medical Doctor

The United States Peace Corps seeks a Medical Doctor to serve as a contracted (a one year contract with options to renew) Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO) based in Nairobi.
 
Minimum 5 years experience as a Medical Doctor. 

The PCMO will provide health care to U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers in Kenya and will work under the supervision of the Peace Corps Country Director in Kenya and the Peace Corps Office of Health Services (OHS) in Washington, DC.
 

The position is Full Time (40+ hours a week) and additional On-Call duties.
 
Office space and all necessary equipment will be furnished.
 
Duties include provision of adult primary care including routine gynecological services.

Doctor will also be required to facilitate periodic training sessions in preventive health practices and perform various administrative duties.
 
Position requires excellent interpersonal communication and intercultural skills.
