over 30 countries with current projects in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin
America, and the United States.
HealthRight
works closely with communities and establishes local partnerships to deliver
health services, while providing training and equipment to improve systems and
enable our partners to deliver services on their own.

goal is to build lasting access to health, helping to realize the right to
health for excluded communities.
Outline of Role:
The PMNH+ Project Director will oversee the establishment, implementation,
management and evaluation of the project based in Marakwet
Kenya.
The
four-year project seeks to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes in
Marakwet County by creating a comprehensive continuum of services from
households to hospitals, through the establishment of 8 model facilities and 20
new teams of community health workers.
PMNH+
will generate evidence of the effectiveness of task shifting a package of MNC
services to community health workers at the facility and community levels in
improving MNH outcomes.
This position reports directly to the HealthRight Africa Program Director in
New York and will be based in Chebiemit, Marakwet.
Responsibilities and Duties
Representation:
- Work
closely with the DCH and the DRH for the approval of the Operations
Research and serve as primary liaison to the MOH to communicate project
progress and results at the national and provincial levels.
- Attend
national, provincial, and district level MOH annual planning meetings, as
needed, to advance all HealthRight project priorities.
- Represent
HealthRight to the USAID Kenya Mission, national-level working groups,
HENNET, and national level MOMS and MOPHS
- Work
closely with District Health Management Teams to develop agreements and
work plans and foster collaboration for the project.
- Maintain
positive, effective working relationships with project partners, including
local CBOs and FBOs, MOH and DHMTs as well as other implementing agencies
in the County and Province.
- Present
the PMNH+ project at national, regional and global conferences, as needed.
- Identify
and cultivate national-level donors, in collaboration with the Program
Director.
Project
Management:
- Plan,
implement, and monitor project activities to fulfil all grant objectives,
providing technical leadership and support to project staff.
- Work
with the OR Manager and the Principal Investigators in the design,
implementation and dissemination of the operations research in both
districts at the community and facility levels.
- Work
with the PIs and the HQ-Based Program Director to receive approval and
involvement of the provincial and national level MOH in the operations
research.
- Work
with other HealthRight Kenya Project Directors to integrate activities at
all levels with other HealthRight projects.
- Oversee
gathering of all evaluation data, working closely with the OR Manager,
HQ-based Program Director, outside evaluators and consultants, and M&E
Officer, through tools such as KPC surveys, Health Facility Assessments
and use of checklists and/or structured interview tools.
- With
support from HQ-based Program Director and in cooperation with M&E
Officer, develop the project’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools
as necessary for routine monitoring of project progress and donor and HQ
reporting.
- Work
with HQ-based Program Director to develop and revise the project
strategies as needed based on best practices, context, effectiveness and
sustainability of impact.
- Identify
project challenges or weaknesses and work with staff and HQ to
troubleshoot solutions in a system of continuous monitoring and quality
improvement.
- Ensure
that the project adheres to all MOPHS and MOMS protocols at the health
facility and district levels, in collaboration with the District Health
Management Teams.
- Perform
regular monitoring visits to project sites to ensure quality of services
and progress of project objectives.
- Develop
quarterly project work plans that are detailed, accurate and complete and
submit to HQ.
- Provide
MNC technical updates or other capacity building opportunities to staff,
as needed.
Operations
Support:
- Recruit
and supervise seven project staff offering regular feedback on
performance, performing annual performance reviews, and updating staff
contracts, as required.
- Maintain
compliance with all USAID and HealthRight finance, logistics, procurement,
and personnel policies.
- Provide
careful financial oversight for the project by monitoring spending,
reviewing expense reports, and drafting monthly funds requests.
- Assist
with recruitment for HealthRight operations or other project staff as a
member of the support team.
- Ensure
the appropriate and effective use of project resources including vehicles,
computers, phones and consumables to decrease loss and waste.
- Serve
as signatory for HealthRight in Kenya for financial and administrative
purposes.
Reporting:
- Submit
monthly project narratives and data reports to HQ.
- Assist
with donor and HealthRight board reports as needed.
- Communicate
frequently and effectively with the Program Director about project
implementation successes and challenges.
- Share
project progress, including data, with local, Provincial and national
partners regularly.
Any
other duties as assigned.
Required Experience:
- MD,
Masters of Nursing with Midwifery or related field
- MPH
strongly preferred
- Minimum
of 4 years of experience working with an international NGO implementing
maternal and child health programs in Kenya.
- Minimum
of 4 years of experience managing MCH programs
- Prior
experience leading community research
