Qualifications:
  • Possession of an Ordinary Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the supervision of building construction works. Membership to the Institute of Clerk of Works Kenya will be an added advantage.
  • Fluent in Kiswahili and English.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and make reports.

1 Position

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Clerk of Works will be responsible for:
  • Proper scoping of works and timely delivery of the project.
  • Ensuring that construction work is carried out in accordance with legislation, specification, contract documentation and industry best practice.
  • Ensuring that high standards of quality control are maintained through monitoring the construction, contract progress, procedures, workmanship, schedules and the overall job safety as well as effective coordination between the contractor and the consultants.
  • Acting as a liaison person between KASNEB and the Project team.

  • Take measurements and samples on site to make sure that the work and the materials meet the specifications and quality standards.

Qualifications and Experience
 
The ideal candidate will possess the following academic and professional qualifications and experience:
  • A Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelors degree in Building Construction Management or related discipline from a recognized Institution.
  • Relevant experience of at least 5 years in a reputable construction site of a multi-storey development.
  • Must be familiar with Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Membership to a relevant Institute will be an added advantage.

Job Title: Steel Fixer
 
Summary: Steel fixer fit and secures the steel bars and mesh used to reinforce concrete on construction and engineering sites.  

They may also work in pre-cast concrete plants, as well as in areas of pre-stressing, post-stressing and tensioning, using hydraulic jacks and tensioning mechanisms.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Setting out the work area following engineering plans
  • Using hand and power tools to cut and bend bars or mesh
  • Tying rebar (reinforcement bars) together with wire, clips or welds to build up cages or sections
  • Fitting spacers and ‘chairs’ (supports)
  • Fixing the formwork and shuttering used to hold setting concrete in place
  • Joining cages and sections and Fixing steel to concrete bases
  • Installing beams and pre-cast slabs
  • Reading and interpreting working plans and steel lists for the job
  • Making steel bars or meshing the required length by cutting them with bolt cutters, guillotines or power saws
  • Assembling the reinforcing bars or mesh by welding, wiring or clipping into predetermined locations within the concrete
  • Fabricating steel reinforcement such as beams, footing pads or special units
  • Joining prefabricated units together for large sections of high rise or civil projects, and position the reinforcement ready for concrete pours.
Personal Requirements:
  • At least a diploma in Civil engineering or Building and construction engineering.
  • 2-3 years of work experience in similar role.
  • Able to cope with the physical demands of the job.
  • Able to work as part of a team.

Job Specification
  • Interpret technical drawings and provide sketches to be constructed
  • Supervise a pool of workers in workshop and site in construction and installation works
  • Procurement of construction materials and organization of various deliverables to site and clients including constructed items
  • Interpret and enhance design concepts to be constructed in line with Clients specifications.
  • Carry out assessments of suitability of construction materials to be used in terms of strength and cost where applicable
  • Monitor progress of works and meet pre-identified milestones and deadlines in accordance with project requirements
Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and guiding workshop team in production.
  • Any technical course in the building environment
  • Good knowledge of computer skills, Microsoft Office suit and any Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software will be a definite advantage
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present yourself to Clients and colleagues
  • Independent and smart thinker with ability to solve problems both technical, administration and managerial
  • Possession of a valid driving licence will be an added advantage
  • Self-driven with high interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel outside Nairobi on short time assignments when required
