Key Responsibilities

Project Implementation, Monitoring & Reporting

  • Manage the day - to - day running of the Key Populations Clinic.
  • Provide a wide range of Reproductive Health and HIV related services to Female Sex Workers through both static and outreach services. The service package will include:
  1. Preventive behavioral skills education including condom use education
  2. Condoms and Lubricants distribution.
  3. HIV Testing & Counseling./ RESPECT – K Counseling Sessions
  4. Screening and Treatment of STI’s.
  5. Cervical Cancer Screening & Referral.

  • Documentation and management of client records, files and clinic / MOH registers.

Quality Control & Improvement
  • Ensure adherence to the National Key Populations (MARPs) minimum package of bio - medical services and the Quality Management Framework for HTC in Kenya (NASCOP, 2010) as well as that of the National Guidelines on the implementation of RESPECT interventions.
Supervision & Leadership
  • Support the Key Populations / HTC Officer in identifying staffing, programmatic and technical capacity gaps that impact on program implementation.
  • Technically supervise and monitor performance of Key populations HTC Counselor.
Integration, Networking & Coordination
  • With direction and support from the KP & HTC Officer, liaise with MOH in maintaining a consistent supply of clinic supplies, test kits and other consumables.
  • Explore opportunities of enhanced integration with the Women Protection and Empowerment (WPE) project.
  • Support MoH in provision of clinical services at Lodwar District Hospital when called upon or during times of emergency.
  • With support from the KP/HTC Officer, identify and utilize networking and linkages opportunities which are beneficial to the community, IRC and its programs.
Required Qualifications:
  • Diploma / BSc Degree in Nursing.(Registered  Nurse with the Nursing Council of Kenya)
  • Qualified HTC Counselor.- Certified  by NASCOP./ LVCT
  • Trained in RESPECT – K Evidence Based Intervention.
  • Has undergone trainings in Key Populations (MARP’s) programming
  • Trained in Reproductive Health, Behavior Change Communication (BCC) and / or other HIV related Trainings e.g. Peer Education, Peer Counseling or HIV&AIDS Management

The Joint World Bank / IMF Health Services Department (HSD) is looking for a highly organized individual to be based in Nairobi, Kenya to serve as Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) on a one year appointment, renewable. 

His/her main role will be to support the Regional Medical Advisors (HRMAs) located in Kenya and South Africa. Full respect of medical ethics, including confidentiality, is the key value shared by HSD staff to achieve the department’s goals.

The functions include: 

(i) Advisory role to the Country Offices - under the supervision of HRMAs, s/he will advise the Country Office managers and staff within his/her designated region, on health related matters (such as occupational health, travel medicine, medical briefings, health promotion and wellness activities, etc); 

(ii) Coordination and Management of medical evacuation – s/he will act as a focal point for managing and providing administrative assistance in the case of medical evacuation for staff and dependents. 

(iii) Perform Medical Duty Officer responsibilities on rotating basis to manage after hours emergencies. Although supervision by the HRMA will usually be available, the OHN needs to be able to function independently when needed, exercising strong clinical judgment and reliability;

(iv) Coordination of care of chronic cases - Under the supervision of HRMAs, OHN will be responsible for overseeing the medical care of staff and dependents suffering from chronic severe diseases in the Country Offices. 

(v) Health Promotion – OHN will assist Health Promotion Partners in some key countries in organizing some health events, including annual medical screening at the workplace.

It is important to note that this is an advisory position, and the Occupational Health Nurse will not be providing direct health care to staff or dependents.

Selection Criteria:
 
The successful candidate should be holder of at a minimum a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school with at least 8 years of post-graduation professional clinical experience;

1. Perform daily medical activities in the clinic in Drop In Center
  • Welcome the patients, prepare the medical records and sort patients depending on degree of gravity and refer to the clinic urgently if needed.

  • Providing nursing care to patients and Maternal Child Health and Family Planning (MCH/FP) services.
  • Offering broad counseling services to both employees and their families.
  • Maintaining accurate records of drugs and medical supplies placed under his/her custody and keeping nursing supplies inventory.
  • Preparing relevant reports as required and within the set deadlines.
  • Participating in home based care and palliative care to improve quality of life of convalescents and terminally ill patients respectively.
  • Giving nutritional and other forms of health education to patients/Clients.
Job Specifications
  • Diploma in Community Health Nursing from the Kenya Medical Training College or a recognized Medical Training Institution.
  • Registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya with valid current practising license.
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in a busy Health Institution/ Hospital.
  • Good ICT skills.
Those with the following Qualifications will have an added advantage:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from a recognized University.
  • Post basic Diploma qualification from any of the nursing field e.g Theatre, ICU, Trauma, Neonatal, Renal, Psychiatry or Pediatric Nursing.
  • Certificate in Maternal Child Health and Family Planning (MCH/FP) or Certificate in Reproductive Health.
  • Certificate in HIV Counseling and Testing e.g Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission(PMTCT) or Diagnostic Testing and Counseling (DTC) or Provider Initiated Testing and Counseling (PITC) or Voluntary Counseling and Testing.

Reporting to the Chief Clinical Officer, the job holder will be responsible for providing clinical care and services in the Authority. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provision of quality Clinical services at the Authority’s health facilities.
  • Identifying and referring patients with complicated illnesses to the Head of Medical Services for further management.
  • Participating in comprehensive HIV/AIDS program for the employees and their dependents.
  • Conducting counseling sessions to the employees and their dependents.
  • Conducting health education at the Authority’s health facilities.
  • Conducting Special Clinics such as diabetic, hypertension, E.N.T., ophthalmology, pediatrics, tuberculosis (TB) clinics, etc.
Requirements for the Post
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Clinical Officers Council and with a current license.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience at similar role in a reputable organization.
  • Good ICT Skills.
