Murang’a University College
(A Constituent College of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology)
Murang’a University College was established under Universities Act 2012 Section 74. MRUC is the successor of Murang’a College of Technology.
MRUC is positioning itself to develop a distinctive profile as a progressive and international Technical University, growing its enrolment strategically.
The University College is located 1.5 km from Murang’a town, 85 km North East of Nairobi, 70 km South East of Nyeri and 50 km South West of Embu. Its location provides a serene environment conducive for learning.

The University College Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons to provide leadership to the institution in the positions of the Principal of the College and Deputy Principal (Academic, Research, Innovation and Extension).
Principal
Ref. MR.U.C/01/2013
The Principal of the University College shall be reporting to the Council, and shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the university college; the academic and administrative head of the University College; have the overall responsibility for the direction, organization, administration and programmes of the University College.
The Principal shall have such further responsibilities and duties as may be assigned by the University College Council.
The person appointed as Principal of the University College shall comply with Chapter Six (6) of the
Constitution of Kenya 2010.
Qualifications and Experience
The applicant should;
- Be a Professor or Associate Professor with at least ten years experience in senior management (Dean, Director and above) position in a University;
- Be outstanding and internationally recognized scholar as evidenced by publications and referee journal (at least ten in the last five years) or university level book chapters and books.
- Demonstrate the ability to attract project grants/ awards;
- Have supervised Post graduate students
- Demonstrate the ability to develop Curricula, programmes and projects.
- Demonstrate competence in administrative and financial leadership in an academic and research environment;
- Have a good understanding of government financial and fiscal policies, strategic planning and vision 2030 flagship projects, Public Procurement and Disposal Law;
- Have an excellent understanding of the current trends in university education, training and research nationally and globally.
- Demonstrate an outstanding ability to communicate effectively and possess excellent interpersonal skills;
- Be computer literate;
- Applicants with an MBA will have an added advantage.
- Comply with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
Duties and Responsibilities
As the Chief Executive Officer of the University College, the Principal will be the Academic, Research and Administrative head of the College working under the direction of the Council with the following duties and responsibilities;
- Have overall responsibility on the direction, organization and the administration of academic programs of the University College;
- Coordinate the development and implementation of the academic and administrative policies of the University College in accordance with the university master plan and strategic plan;
- Maintain efficiency and good order of the University College and ensure proper enforcement of the statutes, College regulations and compliance to statutory Laws and Acts.
- Provide innovative and creative leadership in the areas of finance, human resource, planning and infrastructural development, students’ affairs management and community linkages;
- To facilitate and maintain linkages with government/regulatory agencies and other local/international institutions of higher learning;
- To report all matters regarding the University College to the Council;
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the University College Council.
Deputy Principal (Academic, Research, Innovation and Extension)

The Deputy Principal shall report to the Principal and shall be the Head of Academic, Research, Innovation and Extension and will ensure these functions evolve into pillars of excellence within the University College.
Qualifications and experience
The applicant should;
- Be a Professor or Associate Professor with at least two terms (Dean, Director and above) experience in university;
- Be outstanding and internationally recognized scholar as evidenced by publications and referee journal (at least eight (8) in the last five years) or university level book chapters and books.
- Demonstrate the ability to attract project grants/ awards;
- Have supervised Post graduate students
- Demonstrate the ability to develop Curricula, programmes and projects.
- Demonstrate competence in administrative and financial leadership in an academic and research environment;
- Have a good understanding of government financial and fiscal policies, strategic planning and vision 2030 flagship projects, Public Procurement and Disposal Law;
- Have an excellent understanding of the current trends in university education, training and research nationally and globally.
- Demonstrate an outstanding ability to communicate effectively and possess excellent interpersonal skills;

Duties and Responsibilities
Deputy Principal in consultation with Principal shall:
- Coordinate the development of academic policies of the university college in consultation with the Academic Board and the Senate;
- Direct and organize academic policies and programmes of the university college;
- Coordinate and manage students affairs;
- Coordinate and manage examinations and the preparation of academic transcripts, certificates, diplomas and degrees;
- Develop research agenda with clear guidelines on research alliances and partnerships nationally and internationally;
- Develop and implement strategies to facilitate growth in revenue to support research and innovation;
- Provide strategic direction, leadership and management of the centres and departments that comprise the research and innovation portfolio;
- Oversee the protection and commercialization of the innovations;
- Establish linkages with industry and business through local, national and international networks to leverage research outcomes and opportunities;
- Perform such other functions and responsibilities assigned by the Principal and University Council as may be necessary and in the interests of the University College as per its rules and regulations;
Terms and Conditions
The above posts carry attractive remuneration package which includes basic salary, house allowance, and medical cover as per the University College’s medical scheme, leave allowance, official transport and gratuity at the end of the contract period as per University College provisions.
The salary entry point will depend on qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
