The
Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, invites applications from suitably
qualified individuals for the following positions:
Full Time Faculty - General Surgery
Reporting to the Chair of Surgery, the Full Time Faculty will provide clinical
services to patients and clinical supervision in the operating room during
peri-operative care of patients.
As
part of the Faculty, s/he will give formal teaching and carry out research in
defined areas, as well as areas of professional interest and knowledge. S/he
will be involved in committee activities in areas of teaching, research,
clinical or administration.
Applicants must have a Masters of Medicine in Surgery and a fellowship in
Colorectal Surgery, and be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and
Dentists’ board with board recognition in Surgery. S/he should have teaching
and research experience or activities to reflect a strong interest.
Applicants
with expertise and experience in elective work for both
benign/oncological colorectal cases and emergency cases will be preferred. S/he
must have a minimum of two (2) years post fellowship in the subspecialty of
colorectal surgery (for colorectal surgeon) and laparoscopic skills.
S/he should demonstrate a scholarly and reflective approach to clinical
practice and the ability to engage in teaching and training others.
Full Time Faculty - Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery
Reporting to the Chair of Surgery, the Full Time Faculty will provide clinical
services to patients and clinical supervision in the operating room during
peri-operative care of patients.
As
part of the Faculty, s/he will give formal teaching and carry out research in
defined areas as well as areas of professional interest and knowledge.
S/he
will be involved in committee activities in areas of teaching, research,
clinical or administration.
Applicants
must have a Masters of Medicine in Surgery and a fellowship in Plastic and
Reconstructive Surgery and be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners’
and Dentists’ board with board recognition in Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery.
Applicants must have expertise and experience in elective work for
Trauma/burns, orthopaedic, breast, cosmetic and any other malformations that
require reconstruction.
S/he
must have a minimum of two (2) year’s post fellowship in the subspecialty of
Plastic and Reconstructive surgery skills.
The
ideal candidate should have teaching and research experience or activities to
reflect a strong interest. S/he should demonstrate a scholarly and reflective
approach to clinical practice and the ability to engage in
teaching and training others.
Dental Surgeon (Mobile Unit)
Working in a fully fledged Mobile Unit, the Dental Surgeon will review patients
and monitor patients’ progress on a regular basis mainly at our busy outreach
centres.
S/he
will be expected to work with a team of staff to ensure optimal delivery of
quality patient care.
Applicants must be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and
Dentists’ Board and have a minimum of Bachelor of Dental Surgery qualification
with at least 3 years relevant practice
including one year internship from a reputable institution (including
composites, root canal therapy, crowns and bridges).
Sonographer – Echocardiogram
The Sonographer will be responsible for provision of quality Echocardiograms
and Transesophangeal Echocardiograms (TEE) and Hotler monitors in the hospital.
Applicants should have a Diploma in Sonography or Cardiological Technology in
Echocardiogram from a recognized institution.
S/he should have a BLS certification with ACLS being an added advantage.
The
ideal candidate should have a minimum of two (2) years work experience in a
similar position.
S/he
should have an excellent understanding in ultrasound physics, cross sectional
anatomy, physiology and pathology.
Medical Laboratory Technologist – Outreach
Services
The Medical Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for provision of
effective, efficient, quality laboratory services.
Applicants for the position must have a Diploma in Medical Laboratory
Technology from a recognized institution.
S/he
must have three (3) years relevant working experience and must be registered by
the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologists and Technician Board.

successful candidate should be flexible
and willing to work in any of the outreach centres countrywide.
Pharmaceutical Technologist – Outreach
Services
The Pharmaceutical Technologist will ensure accurate compounding, dispensing,
patient education and handling of pharmaceutical supplies for all orders.
S/he
will provide effective pharmaceutical services to meet customer needs.
Applicants for the position must have a Diploma in Pharmacy and a Practicing
License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
S/he
should be registered with the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association and have a
minimum of six (6) years hospital experience working in pharmaceutical
services.
Clinical
pharmacy experience and evidence of continuous education will be an added
advantage.

successful candidate should be flexible and willing to work in any of the
outreach centres countrywide.
Clinical Nurse - Outreach Services
The Clinical Nurse will promote and maintain high standards of professional
nursing care to meet the needs of patients and their families in all aspects of
care.
The
nurse will ensure that s/he maintains safe practice and a safe environment.
S/he will treat patients with dignity and ensure confidentiality at all times.
Applicants should have a Diploma (KRN/KRCHN) from an accredited School of
Nursing: S/he should have ATLS/ACLS/BLS/EPLS or other unit based specific
requirements and a valid nursing license.
The
ideal candidate should have a minimum of three (3) years continuous clinical
nursing experience in an acute care set up and membership in NNAK and the
relevant chapter/association.
A
Bachelor of Science in Nursing or commitment for the same is desired.

Patient Services Coordinator - Outreach
Services
The Patient Service Coordinator will primarily be responsible for front office
operations and financial transactions, including handling cheques and corporate
agreements/correspondences.
Applicants should have a minimum Diploma in Front Office Operations and/or
Customer Service.
Knowledge
of Accounting/Financial Management and proficiency in MS Office packages will
be an added advantage.
The
ideal candidate should have excellent customer service skills.
Team Leader - General Stores
The
Team Leader, General Stores will be responsible to manage and oversee
operations of the team with key focus on competitive pricing, optimum stock
holding (i.e. stock availability), non-stock purchase turnaround time and
ensuring the team is working as guided by policy and procedure.
Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field with Post
graduate qualification in business related field.
S/he should have a minimum of three (3) years experience at supervisory level
in a purchasing and warehouse function.
Certification in Purchase and Supply Chain Management (CIPS) will be an added
advantage.
Accountant -
Finance
The Accountant will be responsible to maintain the AKU books of accounts,
prepare annual financial statements, monitor grants, and assist in student
receivable reports and audit schedules.
Applicants should have a Bachelor of Commerce and/or CPA (K) or equivalent.
S/he should have a minimum of three (3) years experience in a busy Accounting
Department and working knowledge of Iscala accounting system and People-soft
receivables as an added advantage.
Supervisor, Dispatch -
Debtors
The Supervisor will be responsible to ensure the prompt dispatch of Out Patient
and In Patient invoices from the hospital and outreach centers.
S/he
will prepare duty rotas/leave schedules and review dispatch processes to ensure
smooth running of the section.
Applicants should have a Bachelor of Commerce and/or CPA II or equivalent. S/he
should have a minimum of three (3) years experience in a busy Accounting/Credit
Management Department.
Human Resources Officer - Recruitment
The Human Resource Officer will assist in the recruitment function of the
University in conjunction with the respective Heads of Departments.
Human Resources Officer – Training and
Development
The
Human Resource Officer will provide support for all HR development activities
related to the areas of Training and Development, Performance Management and
Quality.
Applicants for both HR positions must have a Degree in Social Sciences and a
Diploma in Human Resources. S/he should have a minimum of two (2) years
relevant experience in a busy HR department and proficiency in all MS Office
packages.
