Reports to:
Grants and Development Manager Overall job function Under the direct supervision of the CEO, the communications specialist should strive to effectively communicate the organization's mission, vision, goals and program outputs/outcomes to donors, stakeholders, government, interested parties and general public through print and electronic media. The communications specialist should ensure reliable processes that enable consistent documentation of organizational work. Key responsibilities
  • Oversee the development of work plans for the communications unit o Undertake to monitor, report and evaluate progress activities within the unit
  • Brand Management
    o Implement branding guidelines, marketing strategy and communication strategy for the organization o Oversee the branding of materials for the organizations o Ensure consistent visibility of CHS brand at online forums through the website and social marketing o Support staff to ensure that CHS organized/funded activities are appropriately branded o Regularly develop and update content to the www.chskenya.org website
  • Documentation o Develop, avail and ensure adhere to standard templates for various program functions o In close consultation with regional coordinators, program officers and M&E officers, document CHS activities and best practices o Oversee the production of media products such as documentaries, newsletters, newspaper articles and other publications
  • Knowledge management o Collate and disseminate resource/reference materials to increase the knowledge base of staff o Develop and maintain a knowledge hub (resource centre) for the organization o Maintain organizational memory through an archival system for organizational work
  • Communications solutions o Deploy tools, techniques and solutions that enable streamlined, cost effective and reliable communication across the organization
  • Capacity development o Provide training for staff to enhance their communicative abilities and proficiency of deployed solutions o Provide Technical Assistance to staff in the course of developing materials for various audiences e.g. conference abstracts, stakeholder presentations etc
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
    o Develop and oversee the implementation of a CSR agenda for the organization
  • Any other duties as may be so assigned by the supervisor
Requirements:
  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, social sciences with equivalent professional work experience.
  • Five years progressively responsible work experience in the planning and management of communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media, at national or international level.
  • Ability to research, analyze, evaluate, synthesize and simplify technical information particularly those related to health communication
  • Strong writing skills especially writing press releases and articles/stories for traditional and electronic media
  • Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with media representatives, government officials and other partners
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills as well as ability to work as part of a team.

Overall Job Function:
The Director of programs is a key member of the senior technical staff and oversees the implementation of HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment activities supported by CHS under the TEGEMEZA project. Specifically, she/he is responsible for planning, coordinating and providing strong leadership to a team of implementers and reports directly to the CEO. Major duties and responsibilities:
  • Oversee development and periodic revision of work plans, initiation and implementation of HIV Care and Treatment services at CHS supported sites
  • Directly supervise program staff; create and supervise task teams to effectively implement program activities and meet objectives; facilitate regular program staff meetings; conduct regular individual supervision meetings with program staff
  • Monitor progress towards program objectives and timelines including regular reporting to CEO and donors
  • Lead relevant staff in drafting CHS quarterly and annual reports and other written materials such as lessons learned, case studies and other materials as required
  • Work closely with the TEGEMEZA Project sub-contractors and coordinate international technical support to help achieve program objectives
  • Participate in annual PEPFAR planning processes, meetings and proposal development
  • Coordinate the development of tools and job aids for use at facility level to support health care workers to provide HIV services
  • Oversee the procurement and distribution of equipment, drugs and consumables to health facilities
  • Coordinate training of site staff, on site mentorship and residential mentorship.
  • Assist in program monitoring and evaluation and use of data to inform program planning and continuous improvement
  • Liaise with Ministry of Health officials and other stakeholders in the implementation of the program in line with Ministry of Health guidelines and priorities
  • Work closely with the Director of Administration and Finance to develop and monitor budgets
  • Serve as designee for the CEO when he is away from the office
  • Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Significant public health program management experience; HIV/AIDS program experience preferred
  • Extensive experience supervising staff; demonstrated ability to motivate staff and to build effective teams
  • Exceptional writing and oral communication skills
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding of the political and ethical issues surrounding HIV infection
  • Ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain relationships with project staff, donors, sub-contractors and other partners
  • Ability to manage projects/activities, set realistic priorities and timelines, and follow through appropriately
  • Experience developing program budgets
  • Experience working with US government donor agencies and familiarity with USG rules and regulations
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to use Word and PowerPoint to develop presentations and Excel for moderately complex spreadsheets
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Medical doctor with advanced degree in public health, medicine or related field, plus 5-10 years' experience with development programs. Experience managing United States Government funded projects preferred. Experience must reflect the knowledge, skills and abilities noted above. Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili.

Job: Program Officers

Overall Job Function:
A key member of the CHS program team involved in the implementation of HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment services. Specifically, the Program Officer is responsible for on-site mentoring and implementation of Prevention, Care and Treatment activities at CHS supported sites.

Major duties and responsibilities:
  • To oversee the planning, initiation and implementation of Care and Treatment services at CHS-supported sites
  • To provide clinical support to project sites on HIV care and treatment, with particular emphasis on ART management
  • To conduct clinical training of clinical staff on HIV/AIDS care and treatment
  • To provide on-site clinical mentoring on HIV/AIDS care and treatment to project staff
  • To provide on-going supervision of Prevention, Care and Treatment programs in assigned sites
  • To conduct periodic Joint supportive supervision with PHMT/PMST/DHMT/DMST.
  • To conduct case reviews and targeted training (CMEs) as need arises
  • To assist in program monitoring and evaluation including financial monitoring
  • To provide support for the institutionalization of PITC services in health facilities
  • To assist in strengthening HIV community programs in supported regions.
  • To prepare budgets, work plans, reports and other documentation related to the project
Requirements:
  • A minimum of diploma in clinical medicine from a recognized institution.
  • Training in HIV/AIDS Comprehensive care and support and TB
  • Good practical knowledge of delivery of HIV/AIDS clinical care and ART including patient centred management and family support
  • Excellent management abilities within multi-disciplinary team, support, training and mentoring skills
  • Good  use of MS Office packages and office automation solutions
