The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) is one of 15 Future Harvest Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

CIAT conducts socially and environmentally progressive research aimed at reducing hunger and poverty and preserving natural resources in developing countries. Headquartered in Cali, Colombia, it works in a number of countries spread across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

CIAT has eight offices in Africa (DR Congo, Kenya, Mali, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe) and has two main categories of staff: Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) recruited through CIAT Headquarters in Cali, Colombia; and Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) whose recruitment is coordinated through the CIAT office in Nairobi, Kenya.

CIAT in Africa has a current staff of 32 IRS and 130 NRS.

CIAT appreciates that the support of highly skilled, dedicated and motivated staff is an element of vital importance to the success of its research work in the region and is now looking for a suitably qualified and competent consultant firm to conduct a salary and benefits market survey.

WWF - The global conservation organization, Kenya Country Office (KCO), is seeking to recruit:

Extension Officer

To be based in Kwale, Mombasa, Kenya

Under the supervision of the Kwale Landscape Project Executant (PE), the Extension Officer’s major functions will be: to support the Kwale PE in facilitating implementation of WWF projects on coastal forests in Kwale, with special focus on biodiversity conservation and integrating local communities’ livelihoods.

This will also include maintaining link between the main players within the landscape forming a hub between the key Districts, Communities, Civil Society Organizations, Private sector traditional/sacred and religious institutions.

He/she will contribute to the implementation of the CKP Action Plan in line with WWF-KCO Country Action Plan (WWF-KCO CAP).

Major duties will include but not limited to:
assist in preparation, organization and maintaining records of workshops, seminars, meetings;
assist the PE in answering queries on WWF project in Kwale region,
assist the PE in supporting community groups (CFAs, Kaya Conservation Groups, village Bank, Kwale County Forest network etc) to achieve their objectives by attending relevant community meetings;
assist in the preparation of Kwale landscape budgets and work plans to ensure it covers all requirements for the smooth running of the project;
assist in the preparation of technical reports and other relevant publications;
serve as a member of in-house teams working to improve all aspects of the CKP;
monitoring and evaluation of project performance under the direction of the PE;
maintain and update the filing system.
The incumbent must possess:
a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Agriculture or related field;
a minimum of 3 years working experience in environmental conservation or community development;
excellent verbal and written communications skills in English required, good team player with excellent interpersonal skills; community development skills with skills in capacity building of communities and experience of working with community-based structures;
experience in monitoring and evaluation of programs,;
sensitivity to cultural differences;
ability to work independently and under pressure in a rapidly changing professional environment;
ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, both internally and with local communities, government agencies, donors and the NGO/CBO community;
proven skills in project planning, proposal writing;
a working knowledge of financial management, especially of projects;
willingness to travel frequently and at short notice, often in difficult circumstances, and to spend adequate periods of time in the field;
knowledge of Kiswahili and local cultures is an added advantage;
a strong vocational interest in nature conservation; and
adherence to WWF’s values, which are: Optimistic, Engaging, Determined and Knowledgeable;

Setting up of export systems and processes for the new markets
Preparing weekly progress reports

Qualifications Desired (Skills, Experience And Knowledge)

A University degree in Business Administration, Logistics or its equivalent with a minimum of -3 years relevant experience.
He /she must be self driven with a “can do” attitude and passion to achieve results under minimum supervision.
Must possess great interpersonal and communication skills
Must be proficient in the use of spreadsheets and other report generating and presentation software
