Description
  • Provide technical and operational support under the direction of the APHIAplus Zone 1 Social Determinant technical advisors;
  • Responsible for implementation of the Social Determinant for Health component in a one county;
  • Facilitate the integration of Social Determinant for Health result areas with result area 3 interventions for synergy and sustainable impact in the county;
  • Support the Social Determinants Advisor in implementation of Social Determinant for Health annual work-plans for APHIAplus Zone 1;
  • Support the Social Determinants Advisor to build the capacity of CBOs in the country to implement Social Determinant for Health
  • Support Social Determinants Advisor to ensure quality, focus implementation, monitoring and evaluation of APHIAplus’ Zone 1 Social Determinants of Health interventions (in the county) in integrated household livelihoods; community resiliency and, disaster mitigation and management;
  • Ensure that APHIAplus Zone 1 Social Determinant for Health component in the county is implemented in compliance with WV, GoK, and other acceptable standards and norms;
  • Support the Social Determinants Advisor to facilitate development and rollout of needed programming and monitoring tools, methodological approaches, technical assistance, training / capacity building, DME support and accompanying business processes to ensure that program interventions in household livelihoods; community resiliency, disaster mitigation and management achieve and surpass performance targets;
  • Strengthen networking with relevant government departments to ensure their participation in building revenant structures for sustainability.
  • Implement the project ensuring synergies with other related programs;
  • Impart appropriate mentoring, coaching and supervision in order to equip, motivate and empower Community based Organizations;
Qualifications
  • The holder of this position must have a minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in a relevant field from a recognized University. An advanced degree is highly preferred;
  • They must have a minimum of 5 years experience designing, planning, implementing, supervising and reporting on integrated social livelihood and development projects
  • They must have demonstrated practical command for implementing Social Development;
  • The holder of this position must be results orientated leader with performance based management knowledge who can manage and satisfy multiple and at times conflicting organizational, donor and other stakeholder demands;
  • He /she must also have solid public relations skills and be a strong team player;

Applications are invited from Kenyan nationals to undertake postgraduate studies (for Postgraduate Diploma or Masters Degrees) at Universities in New Zealand commencing in January 2012.

The New Zealand Government provides New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) through the New Zealand Aid Programme within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Up to fourteen (14) scholarships are available to eligible African applicants and will cover air travel, full tuition fees, an establishment allowance, and a living allowance to cover day to day costs in New Zealand.

Applicants may also be entitled to return travel to their home country to see dependant family members under the Reunion Airfare Entitlement.

The priority fields of study available are:
  • agriculture
  • private sector development
  • rural livelihoods (including small and micro enterprise development) and
  • health and nutrition (particularly public health, primary health, HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases);
Application forms are available from participating New Zealand tertiary education institutions (contact details are found on the web address below).

Please complete two (2) application forms and attach copies of current curriculum vitae, notarised / certified copies of university certificates, transcripts and three (3) reference letters, two (2) from academic referees and one work related, together with each application.

All application forms must be completed in English and failure to do so will lead to automatic disqualification. All supporting documents must be translated into English by an accredited translator. A one-page summary in English of reasons for wishing to undertake postgraduate training in New Zealand and how the postgraduate training being sought will benefit your country must also be provided.

Applications are to be submitted on the New Scholarship Application Form to the New Zealand education institution of the applicant’s choice by the institution’s published application close-off date.

Qualifications

  • At least five years working experience of which two should be in a management of nutrition programs
  • First hand experience in nutrition programming in complex emergencies
  • Broad understanding of food security issues in arid and semi arid areas
  • Good knowledge of underlying causes of malnutrition.
  • Experience in nutrition surveys and assessments.
  • Competence in analytical computer software data analysis, writing and communication skills.
  • Must have excellent communication skills

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years working experience of management of malnutrition in emergency contexts.
  • Knowledge and experience of IYCF is desirable
  • Must be registered with the Kenya Nutrition and Dietetics Institute (KNDI)
  • Good knowledge of underlying causes of malnutrition in both emergency and development contexts.
  • A degree in nutrition, possess and demonstrate basic IT skills, and excellent report writing skills
  • The ability to work within a team, on ones own initiative with minimum supervision, and excellent communication skills will also be essential
