The Danish Refugee Council Programme Officer Job in Kenya

The Danish Refugee Council, Somalia Programme is looking for an English & Somali speaking Programme Officer with a background in project management, for the following position:

Programme Officer, Mixed Migration based in Bossaso, Puntland

The position of Programme Officer (Mixed Migration Coordinator) is a coordination position in support of the Mixed Migration Task Force (MMTF) Bossaso.

In coordination with the MMTF Bossaso, the post holder will assist in implementation, monitoring and reporting on activities aimed at reducing the negative consequences of migration issues in the region through support both to migrants and host communities as well as capacity building of local authorities to address migration challenges.

The position is based in Bossaso, Puntland and involves extensive consultation and engagement with MMTF agencies’ staff.

The Mixed Migration Coordinator will be expected to:

1. Proactively coordinate the MMTF including:

• The revision and update of the MMTF Referral/Response matrix;
• The revision and update of the MMTF Bossaso Action Plan;
• Assess the possibilities for other international and national NGOs to join the MMTF;
• Preparation and organization of the MMTF meetings and completion of meeting minutes;
• Preparation of the MMTF work-plans, reports and newsletter.

2. Collect, consolidate and analysis of mixed migration data:

• Maintain efficient working relations with project partners and organizing stakeholder meetings.
• Explore the possibilities of cooperation with local NGOs in implementation of mixed migration activities.
• Establish and maintain efficient working relations between the MMTF and local NGOs working on migration issues in order to ensure effective response capacity.
• Coordinate, organize and arrange workshops, training sessions and project meetings for relevant stakeholders.
• Serve as a liaison person for coordination between MMTF and the Migration Response Centre (MRC) in terms of reporting and exchange of information.
• Draft correspondence, reports, electronic presentations and resource materials in both Somali and English.
• Assist MMTF agencies in developing new proposals and funding strategies.

Requirements:

• A degree in Human Rights and at least 3 years of relevant experience with UN agencies or international NGOs in relation to migration, refugees or human rights.
• Experience in programme implementation, monitoring and reporting.
• Must be fully proficient in both written and spoken English and Somali.
• Must possess excellent writing skills in both English and Somali, and computer literate.
