We are seeking a Hydrologist to join the team and work on aspects of our hydro-power projects at all stages of development both in the field and from our Nairobi office.
Summary Job Description: The hydrologist will be responsible for identifying sources of hydrological data, collecting this data and working closely with the consulting engineers to develop models that will inform on our investments in hydropower projects.
Summary Job Description: The hydrologist will be responsible for identifying sources of hydrological data, collecting this data and working closely with the consulting engineers to develop models that will inform on our investments in hydropower projects.
Our investments in hydropower rely heavily on river hydrology and the hydrologist will play a key role in informing our investment decisions.
While you will be based in Nairobi, a substantial amount of time is expected to be spent travelling in East Africa.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in working with government agencies and other institutions that have hydrological data.
- Ability to gather and present data such as rainfall data and river gauge data.
- Experience evaluating a river’s history flow data in the context of existing river flow data, rainfall data in the catchment area and vegetation.
- Experiences in catchment hydrology.
- Experience managing multiple assignments.
- Ability to work closely within a team of engineers in the design of hydropower plants.
- Experience using multiple sources of data to validate assumption.
- Strong background and experience in statistics.
To fulfil these requirements, you possess:
- A Master’s degree or higher in Hydrology
- Relevant engineering professional certification required
- Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (e. g. ArcGIS) and Microsoft Office (mainly Excel) and maybe AutoCAD and Microsoft Project
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong project management skills
- Strong communication and intercultural skills
- Excellent oral and written English, additional African language skills would be of advantage
