Technical and Business Manager
 
We are recruiting for a new position of Technical and Business Manager to head up our Kenya-based subsidiary company, Mannion Daniels (Africa) Limited.  

This a senior full time position within the Mannion Daniels Company and combines both consultancy work and business development and as such will require a person with multiple skills.  

The post holder will report to the UK Director.

Working with the senior management team the Technical and Business Manager will establish and implement the Mannion Daniels East Africa Business Plan.  

The aim will be to establish MD Africa as a recognised provider of high quality consultancy and programme management services in the region.

We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with a keen interest in public health and international development work in the East and Horn of Africa.

Responsibilities:
  • Undertake an initial scoping exercise and develop a communications strategy to introduce MD in East Africa.
  • Establish links with national government and health sector institutions,  major international donors, UN agencies and leading development organisations and NGOs.
  • Identify and develop business development opportunities and lead in securing contracts with support from the UK office.
  • Lead proposal/bid development process with support from the Bath (UK) office.
  • Undertake consultancy assignments in line with area of technical specialism.
  • Technical oversight of contracts and projects won, using Mannion Daniels performance management approach working with the Senior Management team. 
  • Support recruitment of and subsequently line manage local staff member(s) and local consultants.
  • Establish database of local/regional consultants
  • Travel in East and Horn of Africa required as well as possibly wider travel in Africa.
Personal Specification:
  • Postgraduate qualification in public health, health sector management, health economics or related subject.
  • 10+ years experience working in health and social sector, preferably with East Africa experience.
  • Proven experience of sourcing and delivering consultancy work and working in the private sector.
  • Proven track record of successful business development in an international development context, preferably in East Africa.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English essential.  Knowledge of Swahili and/or other East African languages desirable
  • Self-motivated, flexible and good team player essential.

Project Manager

Mannion Daniels Ltd is seeking a dynamic and highly competent Project Manager, with experience in International development and preferably public health sector projects to join our UK based team. 

The Project Manager is a new position managing a large scale programme and a portfolio of smaller projects, predominately in Africa.

Working with the senior management team, in-country project teams and consultants, the successful candidate will draw on proven experience in implementing operational and financial management procedures, forming strong working relationships with diverse teams and ensuring the successful delivery of high quality projects.

This is a full time position reporting to the Head of Operations, based in Mannion Daniels UK office in Bath.



The Project Manager will have responsibility for a large scale programme in Nigeria and a portfolio of smaller projects, with responsibility for contract management, implementing our operational procedures, oversight of the work plan implementation, financial management, personnel management and monitoring and evaluation.

The Project Manager is a new UK based position that will work in close collaboration with in-country project teams and consultants.  


The Project Manager will report to the Head of Operations based in our UK office in Bath.  

Frequent short term travel (normally one to two weeks in duration) will be required as part of this job.

Specific Tasks
  • Provide operational backstopping to project staff and consultants on all aspects of project management, operations and financial procedures
  • Work closely with the Head of Operations and the Technical Manager to ensure accurate scheduling of activities and allocation of resources
  • Oversight and management of budgets in collaboration with the Technical Manager and the Head of Operations
  • Management of the work plan implementation, tracking keys dates and coordination of logistics for project teams
  • Ensure MannionDaniels operational procedures are correctly implemented and documented
  • Management and upkeep of Mannion Daniels contracts files
  • Implement Mannion Daniels procurement system, including contracting procedure and the development of terms of reference for consultants and sub-contractors
  • Implement MannionDaniels performance management and quality assurance process, including Contract Review meetings
  • Oversight of progress against contract deliverables
  • Oversight of progress against contractual performance indicators
  • Work in close collaboration with the Head of Finance and Head of Operations on invoice approval and payments process.
  • Participation in business development meetings
Person Specification
  • 5+ years experience in international development or related field
  • Experience in programme and financial management
  • Good team working and communications skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office
Reporting and Organisation:

This is a UK based position reporting to the Head of Operations with overseas travel on a regular basis. 


Mannion Daniels head office is based in Bath, UK.  Flexible working arrangements such as Telecommuting will be considered for the preferred candidate.
