Short Term Gender Consultancy Announcement
The Alliance for a Green
Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is a dynamic African-led organization that
is working to catalyze a uniquely African Green Revolution, one that
puts smallholder farmers first, while protecting biodiversity, promoting
sustainability and advancing equity.
AGRA aims to ensure that
smallholders have what they need to succeed: good seeds and healthy
soils; access to markets, information, financing, storage and transport;
and policies that provide them with comprehensive support.
AGRA recognizes that
women farmers can be a potent force for change and has officially
committed to working with both men and women farmers.
This is reflected in
AGRA’s gender policy and strategy which is aimed to fulfill the
organization’s vision and mission of gender equitable development
through smallholder agricultural transformation.
The purpose of the
consultancy is to provide gender expertise and program support in the
operationalization of AGRA’s gender mainstreaming strategy; provide
technical support in the development of gender tools and resources for
strengthening gender integration across the agriculture project cycle,
and technical backstopping to capacity building activities and events in
AGRA.
Qualifications
A degree (preferably a
Masters) in the social sciences related to agriculture and/or natural
resources management and at least four years’ post-qualification working
experience on gender issues in related fields.
Essential qualifications and requirements:
- Knowledge and experience in gender concepts, issues and policies in African agriculture and value chains;
- Ability to develop projects and programs, including concept notes; strong writing & analytical skills in gender issues in agriculture;
- Excellent oral and written communication & computer skills;
- Ability to work independently and creatively.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to the AGRA gender unit in concept notes development; monitoring of gender collaborative activities; technical support in the development of gender tools and resources and backstopping gender capacity building activities in AGRA;
- Liaise with gender unit partners to follow up joint strategy and actions to advance gender in agricultural programming and policy in Africa;
- Develop bi-monthly updates for and management of the AGRA gender website and blog.
Terms
The contract is for 6 months beginning May 15, 2013 –November 15, 2013.
