KEMRI/CDC Program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases. 

Due to its continued growth, the program has vacancies in the BASE- Administration Section.

Position: Deputy Human Resources Chief 

1 Position

Reporting To: Human Resources Chief

Essential requirements:
  • Must hold a Degree in Business Administration or, Human Resource Management.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
  • HND in HR Management or CPS III Will be an added advantage
Additional Desirable qualifications:
  • 5 years experience in providing human resource support services in a large organizational setup.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft office suite, Human Resource Information systems and ERP
  • Ability to prioritize workload of self and program team members and balance conflicting demands.
  • Ability to lead and work within a team and in a diverse cultural environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and resourcefulness
Job Purpose

The incumbent will assist the Human Resources Chief in providing oversight to a range of Human Resources Functions related to Recruitment & Selection, Compensation & Benefit Administration, Training & Development, Welfare Programs and Separation & Grievance Procedures.

Major Duties:

The Deputy Human Resources Manager serves as a full deputy to the Human Resources Chief, sharing responsibility for the Department-wide functions noted above and for leading the HR Branch staff.
Major functional areas include;
  • Informed by feedback, advise the HR Chief on Policy development and implementation in a wide range of areas, including recruitment and staffing, labor and employee relations, compensation, and benefits Administration, performance management, welfare programs, and others.
  • Coordinate HR program evaluation, organizational assessments, and human Resources surveys through preparation of HR reports.
  • Supervise and appraise the performance of the HR staff.
  • Collect industry salary levels and prepare an analyzed salary survey report for management consideration.
  • Oversee the day to day HR operations, by handling of staff and project manager’s matters through the manning of HR Helpdesk.
  • Coordinate development and implementation of HR Management Information Systems that will provide current information to management through centralized personnel records, employee cv databases and job applicant tracking system.
  • Assist the HR Chief in HR Budget formulation.
  • As a member of the HR Branch’s executive team, play a key role in implementing the Human Resources Chief’s Management Agenda and the Branch strategic plan.
  • Represent the HR Branch in cross functional administrative and project meetings/forums
  • Any other relevant duty as assigned by management.
Terms of Employment: 

A 1 year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. 

Probation period for the first 3 months. 

Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.

Position: Chauffers - Drivers 

MR 4
 
Location: Kisumu.
 
Essential Qualifications
 
Education & Language:
  • A minimum Form four KCSE or its equivalent
  • Applicants must hold a valid Kenya Commercial vehicle operator license ,Class B, C, & E
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and/or Swahili
  • Experience: 5yrs of Commercial driving experience, including one- years experience operating four wheel drive vehicles.
Desirable Qualities
  • Applicants must demonstrate , by road test , skill in handling vehicles , the ability to drive defensively to avoid accidents and injury to vehicles or passengers
  • Must present a Kenya accident free driving record for the five years previous application
  • Current & valid Certificate of Good conduct from the CID Headquarters
  • Must be willing to reside in Kisumu and/ or study areas
  • Must be flexible in terms of working odd hours and/or travelling at short notice.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Must know Kenya traffic laws applicable to commercial operations
  • Be familiar with the requirements for safe vehicle operation under both crowded urban or near urban areas, and those encountered in rural or off-road conditions.
  • Applicants should be aware of traffic safety rules, have knowledge of need to drive defensively when encountering unsafe or illegal operations by other drivers.
  • Should understand the full operational capability and limits of the assigned vehicles.
Position Descriptive: 

The driver/chauffeur will provide services related to driving passenger motor vehicles, four-wheel drive off-road type vehicles, trucks and buses for the CDC/KEMRI transportation unit of the CDC/KEMRI operations program in accordance with instructions received from transport Manager and/or the Chief of Operations or designee.
 
Terms of Employment:

Remuneration: 

Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on education levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. 

The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.

Position: Auto Electrical Technician 

MR 6 

1 Position 

Reports to: Head Mechanic.
 
Location: Kisumu - Kisian
 
Qualifications required:
  • A minimum Form four KCSE - D+ or equivalent or its equivalent
  • Must hold a certificate in Motor Vehicle Electricals from a recognized technical institution or polytechnic
  • Must have a valid Driving License Classes B, C, E.
  • The incumbent must have three (3) years professional experience in electric and electronic diagnosis; unit overhauls e.g. Alternators and Starters, handling Toyota Land Cruisers/Hilux’s 4WD’s
  • Excellent written and verbal English.
Job Summary: 

The incumbent will carry out trouble shooting, repairing and servicing vehicle fleet monitoring gadgets fleet log. 

He/she will also carry out trouble shooting of vehicle electric faults.
 
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Carry out In/Out vehicle Inspections on electric faults
  • Trouble shooting and repairing vehicles electric faults
  • Overhaul and repair electric units e.g. Starter/Alternators
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
