Established seven years ago, and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, AATF works across Africa through public/private partnerships to ensure delivery of technologies to smallholder farmers.
The Foundation enjoys financial support from a number of development partners and technology providers that have enabled it launch a suite of project activities in some 15 countries across Africa.
AATF seeks to recruit an experienced and talented Corporate Communications Officer (CCO) to support realization of its communication goals.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Communications and Partnership Manager and under the overall guidance of the Executive Director, the CCO will help enhance the visibility of the organization through specialized and general writing and editing and utilization of a mix of communication channels that will strengthen the identity and profile of the Foundation and generate goodwill to optimize on opportunities.
Terms of Reference:
· Providing communications expertise in the development, implementation and monitoring of Foundation communication strategies and plans
· Packaging AATF scientific work into user-friendly information products and services for awareness and marketing purposes
· Editing scientific and other technical reports and comments for accuracy, clarity and style
· Co-ordinating prepress and printing of technical and non-technical material
· Supporting and guiding public awareness campaigns in Sub-Saharan Africa
· Liaising with and building good working relations with relevant media for coverage of AATF activities especially in SSA
· Identifying and publishing newsworthy stories from the Foundation’s activities and projects
· Supporting the Foundation in interactive utilization of social media tools to reach its various publics
· Documenting lessons, experiences and promising practices based on AATF activities and developing appropriate knowledge products for use by the Foundation stakeholders
· Supporting the Foundation realize strong project-related PR events
· Developing and distributing innovative and creative promotional material to support partnership development and visibility
· Providing departmental support for design and graphics in line with AATF guidelines
Qualifications & Experience
· Masters in Communication or related field, with a postgraduate diploma in communication, public relations, mass communication
· 5 years progressive experience in media management; science writing and editing; utilization of social media tools; development and management of communication strategies and plans; event design & management; information documentation; taking still and video photography; creativity in development of communication products
· Excellent communication skills – with specific experience in science writing/editing
· Experience in knowledge management practice will be an advantage. Consequently, the CCO needs to have a high level of technical knowledge and an understanding of existing and emerging technologies that facilitate capturing, storing and exchange of information.
· Ability to work under pressure in inter-cultural settings
· Willingness to travel especially within SSA
· Fluency in English; working knowledge of French will be an advantage
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based in Nairobi and is on a 2-year renewable contract subject to individual performance and availability of funds. Salary and benefits will be in line with those provided within AATF’s NRS scheme.
