ICAP of Columbia University is working in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Medical Services to strengthen HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment services at provincial and district health facilities.

This program is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Kenya that receives funding from PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

ICAP in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and University of Nairobi would like to conduct a distance learning course on HIV surveillance.

The course presents an overview of public health surveillance techniques used to measure the impact of the epidemic and prevent and control the spread of infection among populations.

Distance Learning Course Administrator

6 Months

Overall Job Goal:

The Course Administer will coordinate and manage the overall planning and implementation of all aspects of the distance education course in HIV/AIDS Surveillance.

In collaboration with New York and Kenya distance education staff, the Course Administrator will help develop and manage the timeline for completion of all course-related activities, and will facilitate the overall coordination of the course.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with ICAP Kenya and ICAP Distance Education team to develop and implement a plan for recruitment and screening of distance education course participants
  • Administer course on a day-to-day basis: assist with participant registration; maintain course and participant files; set up virtual classroom for each session; ensure participants have access to class links, assignments, Power point slides and other course materials; keep attendance and assignment log; send out reminders to course participants.
  • Act as logistical point person for course participants
  • Help develop and manage course syllabus
  • Assist with developing Power point slides for lectures and discussions sessions
  • Assist with the development of assignments and exams
  • Review and grade exercises, assignments and exams
  • Log into all course sessions and ensure response to participant’s course-related queries
  • Ensure with the IT personnel that the technical needs of course participants are met
  • Conduct IT tutorial with each participant, in collaboration with IT Manager
  • Attend relevant meetings of Distance Education Program
  • Other relevant duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree plus 2-3 years administrative or program coordination experience
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work comfortably with Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; some experience in IT support preferred
  • Interest in distance learning approach and technology
