Chief of Party and Agriculture and Market Linkages Specialist, East Africa
We are currently seeking a Chief of Party and multiple Agriculture and Market Linkages Specialists for a large, multiyear agricultural development project in Kenya that will focus specifically on staple crops.
The project’s primary focus will be to increase staple crop productivity and marketability with an emphasis on select orphan crops.
To achieve this objective, technical components could also focus on improved farming techniques and best practices; farm management; increasing market linkages and competitiveness for maize and orphan-crop value chains; trade facilitation and regulatory and policy reform; and other activities that promote increased food security.
Desired areas of specialization include agronomy; producer-organization strengthening; agricultural marketing and trade; business development and financial services for the agriculture sector; storage and warehouse receipt systems; monitoring and evaluation; and communication.
Experience working with smallholder farmers to increase their technical and management skills and create sustainable market linkages is preferred.

Qualifications:
Chief of Party:
- M.S., M.B.A., or other post-graduate degree in a relevant technical field.
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant and progressive work experience in Kenya, East Africa, or other regions of Africa with a similar development context.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible supervisory work experience, preferably on large and complex USAID-funded projects.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Fluency in English required.
Agriculture and Market Linkages Specialists:
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in one or more technical disciplines relevant to the above.
- University degree in agronomy, agricultural economics, business management or other relevant field (advanced degree is preferred).
- Experience working with international and/or regional NGOs, donor agencies, Ministries of Agriculture and/or private sector actors (buyers, agribusinesses and financial institutions) along staple value chains is preferred.
- Excellent written and spoken English is required.
- Fluency in local dialects (e.g., Kiswahili) is preferred.
- Experience working in Kenya and/or East Africa is required.
