Terms : Fixed Contract Term Contract of 12 Months
Period : April 2012 to April 2013
Position Summary:
The Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD-Kenya) has received funding support from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) under the Program: “Deepening Democracy; Strengthening the Participation of Kenyan Women in Elective and Appointive Positions Under the New Constitutional Dispensation”.
The project aims at ensuring the successful realization of the affirmative action principle enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010, and specifically Article 27 (8) that guarantees that ‘not more than two-thirds of the members of elective or appointive bodies shall be of the same gender.’
Specifically, the Assistant will assist the Inclusivity Programme Officer in the day to day implementation of the CIDA project.
Terms and Conditions of Employment:
The employment will be on a fixed term contract basis and shall run for the duration of the co-operation period. The contract will expire on 30th April, 2013. The officer shall earn a gross salary equivalent to Kshs120, 000.00 per month inclusive of medical cover costs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As the Principle Assistant to the Gender and Inclusivity Program Officer, the responsibilities of the Gender Project Assistant will be to:
- Ensure the timely implementation of the programme work plan in line CIDA project key result areas;
- Implementation of civic education activities on constitutional issues in general and gender provisions in particular;
- Coordinate County training workshops to sensitize women leaders on the opportunities available for them in the Constitution;
- Carrying out capacity assessments of women leaders to facilitate identification of aspirants for targetted training on electioneering;
- Co-ordinate and supervise activities of Gender Focal Persons to ensure civic education is timely, uniform, effective and in line with CIDA/CMD-Kenya rules and regulations;
- Develop and oversee the production of Information Education and Communication (IEC), Civic Education and training material and ensure qualitative aspects of production i.e. design and layout, language translation and adaptation to local context are adhered to;
- Prepare monthly and quarterly work plans and progress reports;
- Monitoring and evaluation of civic education activities;
- Any other tasks as may be assigned by the Inclusivity Program Officer or the Executive Director;
The
Officer Needs to Have the Following Education and Experience:
- At least a Bachelors degree encompassing any of the following areas; social work, community development, social development, gender studies, women’ s studies, politics, or equivalent relevant qualifications from a recognized institution.
- Interest in and understanding of gender issues in the Kenyan social and political context.
- 3-5 years working experience in the relevant area, including in project implementation.
- Excellent computer skills, including word processing.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to be highly motivated.
- Possess strong facilitation skills.
- Should be a team player.
- Should have strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to juggle tasks and priorities and willingness to be flexible
