Project Accounting Manager

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Project Accounting Manager to support the core accounting and general ledger functions of a multi-country project focused on agricultural research-for-development in Africa. This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and will report directly to the Regional Finance Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily accounting functions of general ledger management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, project accounting, inventory controls, monthly and fiscal financial closing.
  • Review trial balance on monthly basis reconciling the general ledger, bank accounts, employee advances.
  • Prepare various financial reports for project management review.
  • Directly supervise staff in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including hiring, training, performance management.
  • Coordinate with the regional and home office accounting teams to ensure high quality financial support.
  • Promote proactive customer service and communication to maintain strong financial reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with local tax and reporting requirements,
  • Performs monthly reviews of all projects to prevent project budget variances.
  • Oversee the sub-grants management functions including agreement preparation, financial reporting and monitoring, and sub-grantee audits when necessary.
Required:
  • Degree in Accounting or Business Administration plus CPA or ACCA Level 11 qualifications.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience working with NGO preferred.
  • Experience working on Multilateral or US Government funded projects preferred.
  • Experience using an integrated Accounting System required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (French, Portuguese preferred).
  • Ability to travel internationally and adjust to cultural differences.
Conditions:
