1.    Mechanical Engineering Manager

Reporting to Head of Manufacturing, the Mechanical Engineering Manager will be responsible for:
  • Enabling production targets to be met by eliminating avoidable factory stops attributable to mechanical failures.
  • Planning and implementing preventive maintenance systems in the Factory plant.
  • Preparing operational specifications and controlling engineering Projects.
  • Operating the division within the approved budget of all resources, man, money, material and time.
  • Preparing timely, divisional monthly reports.
  • Enforcing safety policy in the factory.
  • Organizing plant inspection scheme with a view to minimizing downtime.
  • Planning and co-coordinating Effective Annual Plant and weekly maintenance.
  • Improving the performance standards of all employees in the division by organizing and implementing training seminars, coaching etc.
  • Maintains high level of discipline within the division.
  • Providing strategic input in the area of Mechanical Engineering in Manufacturing
Person Specifications
  • A holder of Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering, from a recognised institution with eight (8) years’ relevant work experience in a similar environment.
  • Post graduate qualification in any of the following;- project management, strategic management, maintenance and condition monitoring, environmental management or any other related field from a recognised institution
  • Registered with a professional body.
  • Attended a senior management course for a period lasting not less than 4 weeks
  • Performance and results.
  • Computer proficiency
  • Aged at least 30 years and above
2.    Senior Internal Auditor      
     
Reporting to the  Audit Manager, the Senior Internal Auditor will be responsible for:
  • Conducting independent audits of the operational and financial functions of Sony sugar so as to identify weaknesses in the effectiveness and efficiency of controls and propose recommendations for improvement
  • Prepare annual audit schedules and programs, perform risk exposure assessments and provide recommendations to minimize the risks and safeguards the Company assets.
  • Carry out system audits and appraise the application and adequacy of accounting, financial, procurement and other controls.
  • Review the work of internal auditors for quality and completeness, taking key risks into consideration.
  • Prepare and submit audit reports including recommendations to management and the Board Audit Committee.
  • Follow up on recommendations to ensure they are implemented.
 Persons Specification
  • A degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance from a recognized University.
  • A qualified accountant (CPA Finalist / ACCA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar position, preferably in a Manufacturing or Audit firm.
  • Good analytical, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in using Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATs).
  • Possession of CISA qualifications an added advantage.
  • Below 45 years of age
3.    Legal Officer

Reporting to the Legal Services Manager, the legal Officer will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring all legal affairs of the Company are efficiently managed and provides legal services to all departments of the Company.
  • Reviewing and drafting contracts, leases and agreements on behalf of the Company.
  • Providing legal advice on suits filed by or against the Company.
  • Advising the Company on any new laws, regulations or statutes relevant to activities of the Company.
  • Acting as a legal consultant for the Company in any legal matters, mediations, arbitrations
  • Offering support to the procurement unit on legal matters.
  • Drafting letters and correspondences on behalf of the Company, when called upon to do so.
  • Assisting in establishing an effective court cases management system
  • Developing key controls, alerts, measures and reporting systems to minimize risks.
  • Developing an effective contracts management system.
  • Advising management through monthly reports on contract status and any potential exposures.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Person Specifications
  • Bachelor of Law degree from a reputable University and enrolled as advocate of the High Court.
  • Postgraduate Diploma from Kenya School of Law.
  • At least five years working experience in a busy commercial oriented organization.
  • Good appreciation of Public Procurement processes in the public sector.
  • Knowledge in contract management/administration.
  • Good communication, drafting, negotiating and arbitration skills.
  • High personal integrity.
  • Below 45 years of age 
4.    Electrical Engineer

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, Electrical Engineer will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring effective coordination, budgeting and execution of specific activities in his/her section aimed at securing optimal plant/equipment availability for efficient sugar processing. He/she will also be responsible for:
  • Planning, installation and Commissioning of electrical machines and systems to the right standards.
  • Planning and Supervision of all electrical Section human resources, daily works and maintenance.
  • Availing of electrical equipment, Machinery and Systems to meet the desired corporate goals
  • Embracing of customer focus, teamwork, integrity and staff requirements
  • Ensuring health, safety and environmental practices are adhered to.
  • Controlling cost of running electrical equipment, machinery and human resources within the approved targets.
  • Availing of electrical plants by carrying out trouble shooting in electrical lines, machines, electrical drives and their systems.
  • Carrying out proper section planning and execution of budget and capital projects within the approved targets.
  • Periodically reviewing equipment and systems in line with market technology changes and advice management appropriately.
Person Specifications
  • Must be holder of Bsc. (Electrical Engineering) from a recognized University.
  • Knowledgeable in electrical fault diagnosis, trouble shooting, equipment maintenance, budgeting, condition monitoring and maintenance or project management or strategic management.
  • At least 5 years ‘hands- on’ experience from a recognized firm preferably manufacturing industry and conversant with work on electrical systems up to 11kv and above.
  • Demonstrate ability in Variable Speed Drives (VSD), Programme Logic Controls systems (PLC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Relays & Metering testing and calibration . Instrumentation and Electronic controls will be an added advantage
  • Must be knowledgeable in energy management and conservation systems.
  • Member of relevant Professional body
  • Able to display high level of integrity with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Champion the section Quality and Environment  Management Systems
  • Must be IT Proficient
  • Must be able to work long hours to meet deadlines
  • Aged below 45 years
5.    Instrument Superintendent

Reporting to Instrument Engineer, the Instrument Superintendent will be responsible for:-
  • Ensuring effective coordination and execution of specific activities aimed at securing optimal plant/equipment availability for efficient sugar processing.
  • Ensuring appropriate installation, commissioning, maintenance, service and repair of all instrumentation equipment, machines and systems.
  • Managing periodical inventory of equipment, machinery, systems and spares. Update/ review upgrade, obsolescence, technology, replacement and replenishment. Advice management appropriately.
  • Ensuring compliance with the sectional approved expenditure plans.
  • Adhering to environmental, health and safety policy.
  • Organizing and coordinating staff duty allocation and performance in instrument section.
  • Prepare periodic section reports as shall be required.
  • Preparing and executing planned preventive maintenance for all instruments and control equipment to assure reliable and accurate functioning/ optimal asset life cycle management.
  • Overseeing control and measurement of equipment calibration programs in liaison with service providers to augment these services and maintain records.
  • Undertaking In - house training for workforce.  Advise and follow up on staff training needs with relevant offices.
  • Championing the section Quality and Environment  Management Systems
  • Carrying out proper section planning and execution of budget and capital projects within the approved targets.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge and competency in configuring & Programming Industrial Variable Speed Drives (VSD), Programme Logic Controls systems (PLC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • Must possess experience in supervising junior engineers and artisans in work tasks.
  • Able to display high level of integrity with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Undertake cross functional tasks in a team context.
  • Registered as a graduate engineer
  • Must be IT Proficient

6.    Production Superintendent

Reporting to Production Manager, the Production Superintendent will be responsible for:-
  • Coordinating of all shift operations to ensure that the projected quantity and quality of sugar is produced efficiently.
  • Effective manning deployment of workers/operators on shift.
  • Optimal cane off-loading, stacking and feeding into the cane carriers.
  • Effective control of juice treatment and clarification processes
  • Sugar loss prevention and control in processing.
  • Effective and efficient handling of sugar in drying, weighing, bagging processes and assuring safe storage as per SOP’s.
  • Effective treatment and supply of water to satisfy requirements in the factory and residential estates.
  • Motivation and competency development of workers.
  • Ensuring good human and industrial relations
Person Specifications
  • Holder of any of the following degrees Bsc. Chemical Engineering, / Food Technology , /Industrial Chemistry or,  Chemistry from a recognized university
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a food manufacturing plant.
  • Must be a person of high personal integrity, good interpersonal and   communication skills
  • Proficient in IT  and a team player
  • Aged below 45 years
7.    Fitter

Reporting to Maintenance Supervisor, the Fitter will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring availability of Plant by repairing breakdowns
  • Monitoring operations to detect defects
  • Ensuring safe house keeping
  • Carrying out programmed jobs
  • Repairing of breakdowns effectively to be able to handle pumps and general machinery alignment both angular and linear. Must be able to read Vaneer  calipers and Micrometer Screw gauge  amongst the tools
  • Carry out routine maintenance of equipment and plant
Person Specifications
  • Holder of KCSE C or KCE Div. III certificate and above
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with three (3) years relevant work Experience or,
  • Craft certificate in Mechanical Engineering with at least five (5) years relevant Work experience preferably in a busy manufacturing firm.

8.    High Pressure welder

Reporting to Boiler Supervisor, the High Pressure Welder will be responsible for:-

Carry out manufacture, repair and maintenance of equipment/plant components through welding processes, with special bias to steam boiler (high pressure) systems
  • Welding of pressure parts both boiler and stir compressor parts.
  • Welding of boiler pressure parts.
  • Welding or plugging tubes.
  • Repairing of tubes.
  • Welding or repair of steamed compressors and piping.
  • Maintaining safety of the welding gas equipment.

9.    Machinist

  • Carry out manufacture, repair and maintenance of equipment/plant components through welding processes, with special bias to steam boiler (high pressure) systems.
  • Processing (turning, milling, shaping, gear cutting, etc.),
  • Do precision machining Production of components through various machining processes to support equipment/plant maintenance activities of the factory.
  • Making spare parts by turning, milling and shaping
  • Ensuring spare parts are made on the lathe shaper and milling machines.
  • Making new spare parts or machine parts.
  • Repairing old parts by turning and rebuilding worn out area.
  • Doing wide range of repairs with the lathe, shaper, miller and drilling machine.

10.    Fabricator
