Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya (with frequent travel to the field)
Period of Contract: One Year, starting immediately
Background
NCA works for the attainment and realization of peoples’ rights through the development of sustainable initiatives and strengthening of local capacities.

NCA’s interventions in
Kenya focus mainly on climate change, gender based violence, women and
governance and livelihoods and trade.
Kenya Programme activities in are clustered in Mandera, Embu, Yatta, Nairobi, Kajiado and Lamu / Tana River.

The post holder is responsible for providing effective leadership in the implementation of the NCA Kenya Gender Programme.

Main Responsibilities of post holder
The Programme Officer - Gender works in close collaboration with other programme team members and partner organisations.
The post holder's main duties and responsibilities will be as follows:
- Provide leadership in on going development and implementation of gender related work
- Ensure gender orientation and mainstreaming in all NCA supported work
- Support the development and implementation of community conversation processes
- Manage the implementation of interventions at the respective gender cluster and ensure liaison between the teams in field locations and the Nairobi office.
- Support the development of high quality project proposals for donor funding for NCA and partners
- Meet strict reporting requirements for each gender cluster and ensure that quality reports, consistent with the overall strategy of NCA, are prepared and submitted
- Initiate and coordinate partner’s capacity development with regard to gender.
- Participate in program planning and decision-making processes as may be required by the Country Program Manager.
- Represent the Country Program Manager in meetings and other functions as is required.
- Take a leading role in the development of Annual Operation Plans and in the formulation of management plans for the related thematic area.
- Ensure all projects are managed within the approved budget and according to NCA financial policy.
- Ensure Kenya programme compliance with NCA’s routines and guidelines
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Gender/ Social/Development studies or related fields. A Masters Degree is an advantage
Experience: 5 years experience in gender programme administration, capacity development, including ability to organize training sessions, as well as development of training materials. Experience in Gender and Climate programming is an advantage.
Skills: Demonstrable skills in gender mainstreaming, report writing, facilitation & training. Proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet and internet.
Language: Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
The successful candidate will be expected to commitment to NCA’s vision, mission, values and strategies. Knowledge of the 2010 HAP Standard in Accountability and Quality Management will be an advantage.
