- The incumbent will serve as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Officer for the laboratory.
- The Laboratory QA/QC officer will serve and train under the immediate supervision of the Laboratory Director besides reporting to them.
- The incumbent’s primary responsibility will be to manage and ensure the proper functioning of all Quality Management activities done in the laboratory.
- Additionally he/she is expected to improve current Quality practices, while maintaining all accreditations held.
- The incumbent will be knowledgeable in all laboratory activities as well as other Project activities that pertain to the laboratory and it’s Quality Management Plan.
- The incumbent may be required to assist the senior staff in teaching new requirements and other Quality Management techniques, while continuing to monitor the performance of Laboratory.
- In charge of SOP management to include ensuring annual reviews, archiving, maintaining up to date lists and schedules of review, and ensuring that all appropriate personnel have read and signed off.
- Perform monthly data review in compliance with the laboratory continuous quality improvement and quality assurance procedure.
- Maintain laboratory equipment quality control documentation and schedule necessary routine/preventative maintenance. This includes the weekly downloads of all data logging devices deployed in the laboratory.
- Perform or delegate all the internal calibration of necessary equipment located in the laboratory such as pipettes, thermometers, timers, etc.
- Perform competency assessment for all laboratory staff and maintain schedule and documentation of the individuals’ performance.
- Responsible for coordinating all external quality assurance activities with other Kenyan institutions, and summarizing performance.
- Maintenance of personnel folders and ensure they are updated.
- Conduct internal audits in the laboratory (vertical audits) with laboratory management.
- Coordinate new SOP trainings to the laboratory personnel.
- Supervise or train medical laboratory students and interns.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Degree or Higher Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent.
- Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologists and Technicians Board.
- At least three years previous experience in a busy laboratory carrying out laboratory QAQC duties.
- Good knowledge of laboratory operations and procedures.
- Should be able to carry out duties and responsibilities with minimum supervision.
- Previous experience in research and knowledge of HIV / AIDS related issues are added advantages.
- Should have ability to train others.
Terms of service: One year contract, renewable as per KEMRI Scheme of Service.
