Vacancy: Aquaculture Assistant
Reporting to the Aquatic Resources Officer, the Aquaculture Assistant will be part of a team of professionals managing aquaculture operations as part of sustainable aquatic resource utilization.
Responsibilities:
The Aquaculture Assistant will be responsible for effective, commercial, sustainable running of the company’s aquaculture operations.
- Implement the optimization of existing aquaculture operations
- Review operating procedures and ensure consistent implementation
- Day to day management of aquaculture operations
- Record keeping and reporting
- Implementation of extension projects
- Monitoring water quality
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedule for equipment and facilities
- Ensure compliance with all government regulations and environmental, health and security standards, as well as the company Health, Safety & Environment Policy and it’s rules and regulations
- Plan and implement mitigating actions to ensure environmental integrity operations
- Participate in relevant educational activities
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Certificate or diploma in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Applied Biology, Animal Husbandry or similar fields
- Minimum 2 years work experience
- Experience in working with life fish or other aquatic organisms
- Basic knowledge of water chemistry and experience in basic water testing
- Adequate knowledge of Microsoft Office packages for data collection, presentation and reporting
- Self-driven, resourceful, result-oriented, able to work within a team
- Hands-on and practical approach
- Basic business management skills
