Legal Internship (3 Months)

Women's Rights Awareness Programme (WRAP) is a national, non-governmental {NGO}, non-profit, human rights organization that exists to identify and educate the community on the causes and effects of gender violence and child abuse, and to offer services that address the needs of abused and violated women and children.
WRAP is urgently looking for a Legal Intern and is inviting applications from qualified candidates. The successful candidate shall commence work on 5th January, 2015

WRAP is urgently looking for a Legal Intern and is inviting applications from qualified candidates. The successful candidate shall commence work on 5th January, 2015
Under the direct supervision of the Legal Officer, the Intern will:
- Assisting Legal Officer with drafting of all legal correspondences and documents for clients on behalf of WRAP.
- Filing documents that are related to legal matters on behalf of WRAP Clients
- Be involved in court attendance and attending to clients who come to WRAP in search of legal aid and advice.
- Undertaking arbitration/reconciliation and mediations when need arises
- When need arises undertake fact finding missions to verify facts on matters where WRAP intends to intervene.
- Participate and attend workshops/ seminars and other networking meetings on behalf of WRAP when called upon to do so - See more at:
- Facilitating community awareness and sensitization on human rights i.e. Legal aid clinics
- Any other tasks that may be assigned by the Legal.
Skills, Experience & Academic Qualifications:
- Sound Degree in Law or should be in the final year of completion in the university (Proof of testimonials or letter from University shall be required)
- Commendable knowledge of the provisions of the children’s Act, UNCRC and ACRWC and other National and international instruments on laws protecting children and women.
- Passion, commitment and understanding on children and women’s rights.
- Very good research writing and presentation skills.
- Demonstrate ability in the use of PC based software including Microsoft office suite, word, excel, power point, SPSS and outlook.
- Good oral and written skills in both English and Swahili.
- Good Communication, interpersonal and people management skills.
- Good organizational and analytical, management and supervisory skills.
- Willingness and learning attitude is paramount.
- Knowledge and interest in WRAP’s work
