Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer reports to the Vice-Chancellor and is responsible for the financial and accounting functions, including: 

(i) Financial Planning, Financial Accounting and Financial Control, 

(ii) Providing strategic direction, organisation and management of the Finance Department 

(iii) Ensuring compliance with all statutory obligations and external financial reporting requirements, and 

(iv) Liaising with internal and external auditors.
 
Applicants should be Kenyan citizens with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent from a recognised university. 

They should also have a relevant PhD or Masters’ degree, with at least fifteen years work experience, the last five of which should be at the level of Finance Officer or comparable position in a university or in an equivalently large organisation. 

The applicant must be registered members of a relevant and recognised professional accounting body.

They should demonstrate competency in modern and international financial management information systems and possess high managerial and administrative capabilities. They should be team-builders with demonstrable leadership, analytical and communication skills.
 
This is a leadership position within the executive management, and therefore, requires a highly motivated and self-driven person, and who fully complies with the provisions of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya. 

The job holder is also required to be results-oriented, creative, persuasive and proactive, so as to establish unity of purpose for the existing managers and staff.

Terms and Conditions of Service

Successful candidates will be offered a competitive remuneration package which includes basic salary, and allowances, and medical cover as per The Technical University of Kenya Medical Scheme and the Kenya Government Public Service guidelines.

The salary entry point will depend on qualifications and experience of the candidate. 

The appointment at Grade XVI will be for a contractual period of five years, renewable once subject to satisfactory performance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Masters degree in Project Management or related field

 the Consortium for National Health Research (CNHR) is a not-for-profit partnership between the public and private sectors aimed at bringing together leading teaching and research institutions to undertake high quality multidisciplinary research beneficial to Kenya’s health priorities. 

All CNHR programmes are implemented by Partners with grants from the Consortium.
 
The Programme Officer - Grants will be the primary point of contact with prospective and existing
grantee researchers, and administratively responsible for all Grants Oversight. 

That includes the review, monitoring, assessment and timely reporting on grantee project work while assisting the Head of Scientific Programmes in the general programme administration and financial management of the full scientific portfolio. 

S/he will take direct responsibility for facilitating prospective and existing CNHR grantee partners to: successfully apply for grants, utilise them, scientifically report on, and financially account for those grants. 

The job holder will also play a leading role in interpreting, collating and disseminating CNHR related research findings to the Kenyan public and specialist scientific communities among other target audiences. 

Your results will be measured on:

Programme Management in assisting the identification of critical research issues and the development of collaborative research and information sharing; grantee attraction, education, motivation and other assistance; monitoring and reporting on the progress of research projects; coordination of field visits and other logistics; and management of the grants database. 

Also on: own contributions to new initiatives in resource mobilisation; public relations (PR); knowledge sharing with health research, policy and institutions/networks including those in government; and the Consortiums wider public and scientific participation.
 
Grants Management as the process owner and lead innovator in: monitoring and evaluation (M&E), reporting, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and advising on the cost effectiveness of CNHR’s grants portfolio; verifying, maintaining and reporting on financial and programme activity records of every grant and funder; preparing periodic reports and funding disbursement requests to funders; and together with the Accountant preparing grants’ work plans and budgets and the overall expenditure projections for the scientific programmes.

You must be highly results focused, collaborative, efficient, self-organised towards strict deadlines, and effective in facilitating people to jointly own goals. 

You need to at least have:
  • a Masters’ degree, preferably in Development Projects Management ideally in a health related discipline such as health systems, public health or medical/biomedical. 
  • Additional training in grants/research results reporting and financial administration would be an added advantage.
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role, with clear competence in programme delivery. 
  • Also in M&E; the reporting of results to specialist scientific and general public audiences; coordination of conferences; and financial accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and other people skills in group facilitation, oral and written communication and personal presentation, preferably with good understanding of both the needs of general public information and the rigor of scientific reporting and discourse.

  • Coordinate implementation of resettlement action plans for geothermal projects in conjunction with the Regulatory & Corporate Affairs division.
  • Manage the relationship between the company and local communities and stakeholders on issues related to the Geothermal Development.
  • Be the contact person for all visitors (local & international) to the area and is expected to coordinate all the service providers including contractors.
Person Profile
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Earth Sciences, Business or any other relevant field.
  • Masters degree in Engineering, Earth Science or Business related field is an added advantage.
  • Must be a registered engineer with EBK and a member of I.E.K or member of a relevant professional body.
  • At least Ten (10) years experience at senior management level in plant operations or geothermal technology related roles.

  • Lead and provide thought leadership in the development and implementation of business development strategies to achieve KenGen’s strategic objectives.
  • Develop accountability structures, oversee periodic reporting and projects implementation and monitor the performance indicators for the Capital Planning and Public Private Partnerships, Projects Execution and New Business Initiatives within the departments.
  • Oversee capital planning and to ensure that the supply and demand outlook is constantly updated, that planned capacity meets forecasted demand requirements and that alternative capital projects options are evaluated to mitigate against either delays or non-feasibility of main projects.
  • Ensure that potential capital projects are effectively screened prioritized and contributes to the National Least-Cost Power Development Plan.
  • Formulate, Evaluate and ensure the effective execution of all feasibility studies. This involves reviewing the technical, financial, economic and environmental aspects of proposed projects and providing appropriate recommendations.
  • Oversee the implementation of Public Private Partnerships by identifying and negotiating new business partnerships for Business Development.
  • Implementation of New Business Initiatives in line with the corporate strategy which includes conducting research and development on various initiatives and providing consultancy services to external parties.
Person Profile
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business or any other relevant field.

Reporting to the Managing Director & CEO, the person will:
  • Lead, oversee and manage the supply chain function and actively participate in the development of KenGen’s corporate strategy.
  • Develop accountability structures, oversee periodic reporting and monitor the performance indicators for Contracts, Procurement and Logistics.
  • Oversee the development of an annual procurement plan with strong focus on strategic buying and monitoring.
  • Oversee the maintenance of a good relationship with suppliers, value for money, local and international purchase and demand recourse from non non-performing suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, legal and regulatory requirements and standards such as Public Procurement & Disposal Act.
Person Profile
  • Undergraduate degree in either of the following fields: Commerce, Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, Purchasing & Logistics or any relevant field.
  • A Masters degree in Supply Chain or Business related field is an added advantage
  • Professional qualifications from C.I.P.S. or related International Supply chain qualification.
  • Member of KISM or any other relevant professional body
  • At least Ten (10) years experience at senior management level in managing the supply chain in a large organization
  • Ability to interact and manage at Board and high level government and stakeholder relationships; and a demonstration of strong ability to negotiate with suppliers and contractors is essential
  • A good understanding of supply chain Management with bias on the public sector.

The Production site is based in Ruiru and it seeks to engage competent individuals to fill in the following vacancies: 

Supervisors - Post Harvest 

2 Positions
 
Reporting to the Senior Supervisor-Post Harvest, the incumbents will be responsible for co-coordinating receipt of all cuttings in good condition, cooling, scanning of bags, sealing and packing as per the defined specification.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Co-coordinate the allocation of duties in the pack house (URC receipt, scanning, cooling, sealing, sorting, packing, strapping, box labeling) and follows up to ensure execution.
  • Will be responsible to review all packing boxes planning of specific order deliveries, ensuring bags are properly distributed in the boxes as per orders and there is efficient utilization of packaging materials.
  • Maintain all relevant documents and ensure that all information is up to date.
  • Enforce good housekeeping culture by making it a safe working environment.
  • Prepare shipment documents by ensuring all the necessary shipment certificates are obtained from the various government authorities.
  • Assist in all internal and external Certification audits.
  • Assist in reconciling stock balances with usages for packaging materials in order to observe the set re-order level and enhance efficiency in their utilization.
  • Coordinate induction and training staff to ensuring they understand the Pack house operations and procedures.
  • Enforce compliance to phyto-sanitary & other local and international regulations.
  • Observe compliance with all the temperature specifications to assure quality of cuttings in the Pack House and inside the delivery truck.
  • Observes adherence to packing protocols and schedule to meet customer requirements.
  • Accompany the consignment to the Airport and secure all necessary shipment documents to ensure that the consignment is delivered for the scheduled flight.
  • Facilitates repairs and maintenance for equipment’s and machines to ensure smooth running of operations
  • Enforce HSE rules and regulations and champions the implementation of the Syngenta HSE policy in all business operations.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
 
The ideal candidate must possess the following qualification and competencies:
  • A degree holder in Horticulture/Agriculture Degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture or Agri-business
  • Must have at least 2 years relevant work experience.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office with excellent organizational skills.
  • Must possess a proven track record of leading teams with good problem solving skills.
