Purpose of post
Under the overall direction of the Director of the Office of the Regional Bureau for Science and Technology in Africa / Representative of the UNESCO Cluster Office for Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda (hereafter referred to as the UNESCO Nairobi Office) and the direct supervision of the Education Programme Specialist, the National Professional Officer - UNDAF Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation will support the monitoring of ongoing One Plan in Rwanda and the development and implementation of UNDAF in Djibouti, Kenya and Uganda.

Purpose of post

Main responsibilities
- Assist the Director in fulfilling his role as a member of United Nations Country Team in Nairobi Cluster Office’s Member States, in relation to the planning and monitoring of UNDAF;
- Support the Education Programme Specialist to monitor and report on UNESCO’s components in One UN Education Theme Group Consolidated Action Plan in Rwanda, and to coordinate the planning and implementation of, as well as reporting on, Education Outcome Group 2 ‘ Achievements’;
- Provide assistance in the planning processes of UNDAF;
- Serve as a liaison officer with UNDAF Education chairs and groups;
- Document and share with HQ and UNESCO Field Offices, experiences and lessons learned of engagements in UNDAF planning and implementation;
- Represent the Director and the Education Programme Specialist in UNDAF related meetings as and when necessary;
- Support other Programme Specialists in UNDAF-related matters when deemed appropriate by the Director
Profile
- An advanced degree in an area relevant to UNESCO (preferably education, planning, monitoring and evaluation);
- At least 3 years of professional experience at national level;
- Professional experience with UN agencies highly desirable;
- Knowledge about the mandate and work of the United Nations and UNESCO;
- Working knowledge about, and experience in, UNDAF and UN joint programming and joint programme;
- Ability to work in multi-cultural environment;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- High level analytical and drafting skills in English;
- Excellent team and individual worker;
- Knowledge of oral and written French an asset.
