The company seeks to recruit a Technical Manager (Commercial Insurance Underwriting) to manage and develop the General insurance business and operation of the company to ensure that market leading levels of technical expertise, practice, procedure and service are applied to the underwriting and business development functions

The position

The position is directly responsible for ensuring underwriting profitability and continued growth of the company’s technical revenues and overseeing the development and retention of technical support.

Key duties and responsibilities will be:
 
  • Provide technical guidance on business evaluation and acceptance in accordance with the reinsurance program and acceptable business standards and ensure maintenance of sound underwriting standards and efficient process flows.
  • Manage the renewal cycle within the agreed turnaround time to ensure the achievement of the required monthly business retention ratio
  • Contribute to the development and review of the business plan and implement strategic objectives of the department to ensure continued business growth and profitability
  • Provide strong leadership by developing an effective and motivated team and ensure that training program is implemented to enable delivery of superior service to customers
  • Implement the company credit control policy and liaise with the credit control team to ensure prompt payment of premiums by intermediaries and direct clients
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the reinsurance program
  • Control to the risk management function of the department to improve the performance of the portfolio and manage the overall loss ratio to the acceptable levels.
  • Ensure that underwriting and business development function is carried out in compliance with the insurance regulatory and industry requirements and standards
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Bachelors Degree from Recognized University
  • ACII
  • Minimum of 8 years technical experience on all classes of general insurance gained in a reputable organization
  • Excellent Written and Oral Communication Skills
  • Demonstrated ability in Business Development and Negotiation Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a Team Environment
  • Thorough knowledge of the insurance industry
  • Computer Literacy
  • Ability to interact at all levels
