Terms of Reference – Campaigns & Policy Intern

Description of Internship


Purpose of Internship: To work with the campaigns team developing a regional campaign within the theme of conflict, insecurity and gender. Support the team to ensure the campaign is developed at country and regional level.

Key Activities:
  • Work with the regional advisor on developing country strategies and consulting external organisations for the new campaign.
  • Updating policy briefs as necessary.
  • Support the roll out of a new project in DRC and South Sudan focusing on monitoring peacekeepers.
  • Support logistics for international conferences and other relevant meetings
  • Keep track of key issues affecting DRC, South Sudan, Sudan and Somalia
  • Provide administrative support e.g. travel arrangements for journalists, schedule meetings and appointments, etc.
  • Supporting the Advocacy and Policy team with scheduling conference calls, dial-ins and taking minutes thereafter.
  • Support in uploading policy briefs and documents to the SUMUS website.
  • Support the campaigns team as required.
  • Carry out any relevant duties as assigned by the Regional Humanitarian Policy Advisor.
Skills and Competence:

Essential:
  • Excellent communication skills with knowledge of both internal and external communications environments.
  • Proactive, self-starter – able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent written skills
  • Reasonable understanding of policy engagement and research
  • Excellent time management, organisation, and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • The ability to work well in a team.
  • Commitment to Oxfam’s values and an understanding of gender and diversity.
  • An understanding of humanitarian issues.
  • Willingness to travel at short notice.
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and a willingness to listen and learn from others.
  • Degree in relevant subject such as Development, Social Policy or equivalent.
Desirable:
  • French language
  • Experience of working in the field and understanding of programme issues.
