Uraia
Trust was established in 2011 as a successor organization to Kenya’s National
Civic Education Programme, which ran in Kenya from January 2000 to June 2011
(NCEP Phases I & II).
Its
focus is to contribute to the progress of Kenya through the development of its
most important resource, the RAIA.
Uraia’s
approach is to promote citizenship from a “rights and responsibility”
aspect.
The
Trust seeks to facilitate the sovereign people of Kenya to inculcate a sense of
belonging and identity that is strongly shaped by being One People, One Nation
- an identity that supersedes rather than replaces all the other identities
contained within the nation
Uraia
Trust is seeking to recruit a dynamic and result oriented individual for the
position of Executive Director (ED).
The
ED is the Chief Executive of the Trust and is accountable to the Board of
Trustees for proper and effective execution of URAIA’s functions and
responsibilities to meet its stated mandate.
S/he
will have the overall accountability of the Trust and be responsible for
providing principled leadership consistent with Uraia’s vision, mission and
values to ensure high performing environment.

- Leading and overseeing the development and implementation of Uraia’s overall strategy while ensuring that programs and support services are aligned to the strategy;
- Leading the resource mobilization process to ensure that the Trust has diversified and growing funding streams for successful implementation of strategy;
- Ensuring effective leadership of the Trust and providing direction on strategic partnerships and collaborative efforts with donors, implementing partners, consultants and government agencies;
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with partners, donors and other development partners;
- Overseeing the development and timely implementation of efficient and effective annual and long term programs and administrative budgets, to ensure desired outcomes;
- Overseeing the recruitment, training and development, reward and recognition of staff to achieve a high performing environment within the Trust; and
- Representing the Trust in diverse forums including speaking engagements, attending conferences and participating in other key internal and external meetings.
Person
Specifications:
The
ideal candidate should possess the following:
- A Bachelors degree in Social Sciences, Economics or Development studies from a reputable institution;
- At least 10 years experience in delivering programme related development projects, 3 of which must be at senior management level;
- A Masters degree in Management, Business Administration or Social Sciences is desirable;
- Experience in leading civic education! engagement programs is an added advantage;
- Ability to develop and drive strategic change; and
- Programme and project management skills, resource mobilization skills and financial management skills.
The
engagement for this position will be for an initial contract of three years that
is renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of
funding.
The
position will be based in Nairobi with travel to programme implementation areas
as required.
