Principal Legal Officer

Reports To: The Counsel to the East African Community
Main Purpose of The Job:
To provide legal advice to the Community in the implementation of its programmes and activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible
for giving legal advice on the implementation of agreed integration
programmes and projets;
- Responsible
for coordination of the EAC Regional Judicial Education/Training
Programme;
- Negotiaite,
draft and review protocols, agreements, contracts, memoranda of
understanding and other legal documents in conformity with the East
African Community mandate;
- Responsible
for giving legal opinions to the East African Community, its organs and
institutions;
- Representation
of the Community in legal disputes at the East African Court of Justice,
other Courts of Judicature and other fora; and
- Perform
any other duties as may be assigned by Management.
Qualifications
and Experience
- A
Master’s Degree in Law from a reputable university, and a certificate of
enrolment to practise law in any of the East African Community Partner
States.
- A
minimum of ten (10) years working experience at national/international
level.
Skills
and Competences
- The
ideal candidates should have excellent communication and leadership
skills, highly developed negotiation and interpersonal skills, effective
legal research and report writing abilities, high level integrity and
commitment to the legal profession and professional development; and be
proficient in computer applications.
- Terms
and Conditions of Service
- The
post is tenable on a five (5) year contract term renewable once upon
satisfactory performance.
- This
position will be subjected to the EAC Quota System.
