Position Announcement: Country Director, Kenya
Family Care International (FCI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safer in the developing world.
FCI is headquartered in New York, with field offices in sub Saharan Africa and Latin America.
FCI’s national office in Kenya is based in Nairobi and is legally registered as a national non-governmental organization.
The Country Director (CD) provides leadership and vision in the development, implementation, and assessment of FCI’s program in Kenya.
Strategic planning and program/project development: Play a lead role in designing and guiding strategy, generating new project ideas, and shaping project opportunities..
Resource development: Lead fundraising efforts, setting fundraising priorities and identifying and cultivating potential Kenya-based and regional institutional donors.
Program management: Assume primary responsibility for the safe, efficient, and effective management and administration of the Kenya office and for the security of the national team.
Staff management and team building: Ensure the appropriate allocation of responsibilities and tasks within the Kenya national team.
Administrative and financial management: Manage and provide oversight of the national budget and financial functions.
Represent FCI nationally, regionally, and globally: Represent FCI at conferences, workshops, and other forums in Kenya, regionally, and globally making presentations and speeches, or writing papers, as required.
Technical assistance: Provide technical assistance on regional and national projects.
Core Requirements
- At least five years’ experience in management, including staff supervision
- Advanced university degree in a related discipline
- Demonstrated leadership skills and capacity, especially in strategic planning, program development, and team building
- Solid knowledge of sexual and reproductive health issues in the African context, and specifically in Kenya
- Demonstrated fundraising experience and achievements
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English, and strong interpersonal and professional communication skills
- Solid working relationships with Kenyan government agencies, and with technical and civil society partners working within Kenya, preferred
- Travel of 10-30% of time is required
- Kenyan national, or Kenyan resident eligible to work in Kenya
