Consultant Trainer on Donor Contract Management
 
1) General Background 
 
At SOS Children’s Villages International (SOS) we believe that children can only develop to their full potential if they have a supportive and protective family environment. 

We work to make this a reality. We are a development organization which works in the areas of child care, education, health, child rights, research and emergency response. 

The East Africa region comprises of the following Member Associations (MA): Ethiopia, Burundi, Rwanda, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Somalia and Somaliland. 

The MAs in the South Africa Region include Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

SOS International has been implementing an Institutional Partnership Development (IPD) Strategy globally to support MAs to diversify their funding base and become more self-reliant in securing locally raised income, especially from institutional donors. 

The Regional Office for East Africa (ROEA) intends to conduct an intensive training on donor contract management for its institutional fundraising managers from the following countries - Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
 
2) Objectives of the Assignment
 
The objective of the training is to facilitate individual and organizational learning on donor contract management. In the long term, acquisition of this knowledge will ensure quality and consistency in relationships with institutional donors and to support country programme teams in managing their funds.
 
3) Scope of Work
 
This should be a practical training and the method for delivery of the training should combine the use of lectures, case studies, power point presentations and group work. 

The scope of this assignment comprises the following:
  • Develop a training programme, under a close consultation with the regional office suitable for the SOS staff
  • Facilitate the training ensuring a participatory approach
  • Facilitate a one-day institutional partnership development strategy review workshop
4) Duration of Assignment
 
The training is planned for May 2014. 

This assignment will be covered in six (6) working days and will cover the preparation, training and report writing.

5) Final Products

 
It is envisaged that the following will be delivered by the consultant:
  • Four days training curriculum which covers the content on DCM
  • Course materials jointly developed by SOS
  • The training report with recommendations
6) Degree of Expertise and Qualifications
  • Minimum Master’s Degree in International Development or related fields
  • Certified trainer and at least five years’ experience in conducting training on institutional fundraising, program cycle management, donor contract management, donor compliance, funding audits etc.
  • Extensive experience in planning, securing, and managing institutional funding for programmes in the East and South Africa regions.
  • Extensive experience in engagement with the major donors – UK Aid, USAID, EU, SIDA.
  • Knowledge of the donor environment in the East and South Africa Region
  • Excellent English report writing and verbal communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills and effective communication
