Microfinance General Manager

Our client is a Microfinance Institution (MFI) that started operations in 2004 as a credit institution, was later granted a License by CBK in 2011 to become a deposit taking microfinance (DTM). 
 
They seek to hire a General Manager whose principal responsibility is to oversee the overall business growth, profitability, regulatory compliance and leadership of the company.
Duties and responsibilities 

  • Ensure growth in their products i.e. Loans, Savings, Fixed Deposit Accounts, Forex, Trade Finance, Investment Advice
  • Lead and Manage the Microfinance Institution
  • Provide overall direction to the organization and ensure maximum outreach, sustainability and transformation of the Institutions operations
  • Provide expertise, information, advice and counsel concerning the affairs of the institution to the Board of Directors
  • Ensure accountability to all stakeholders
  • Develop and recommend corporate policies as well as short-term and long-term business plans for Board approval and implementation
  • Position the institution as a market leader
  • Ensure sustainable growth and long term viability in a competitive environment
  • Building the corporate culture of the Institution
  • Training and mentoring of staff      
  • Supervising Credit Operations, Business Development, Human Resources, IT & Finance
  • Developing and implementing investment strategies.
  • Identifying investment opportunities and formulating business plans.
  • Developing and managing savings and credit programs, loan originations and appraisal systems at the company's branches.
  • Developing finance investment products & portfolios
  • Mobilization and management of deposits and funds for onward lending
  • Managing relationships with customers and promote the companies brand and image.
  • Organize, plan and implement effective staff training.
  • Ensure compliance to company’s policies including regulatory and statutory compliance.
  • Responsible for profitability and portfolio growth
  • Lead in identification and activation of new branches
  • Mobilize adequate funds as a DTM and hence empower to depositors/borrowers
  • Ensure the MFI is the most competitive and preferred in terms of customer satisfaction
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in business preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Commerce
  • Professional qualifications e.g. CPA, ACCA, ACIB will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years relevant experience in a financial institution or similar position
  • Knowledge of software application used in banking/DTM and experience in SME lending
  • General knowledge of a wide range of micro banking products and services
  • Advanced knowledge of Retail Banking operations, industry products or services
  • Knowledge of standard banking compliance, regulations, banking law, business law, employment and labor law, internal operations policies and procedures, and banking products and services
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to third parties and employees
  • Ability to meet reporting expectations of the Board, investors and statutory bodies
  • Excellent decision making skills
  • Strong leadership and team building skill and experience with the ability to develop and maintain a Management team
  • Excellent organization, delegation, performance management, administration, analytical, influencing, negotiation and time management skills
  • Young, dynamic entrepreneur
  • Go getters, not scared to roll up their sleeves & get their hands dirty.
