PEACE III is a five-year project (2014-2019), funded by USAID and implemented by Pact.
The aim of PEACE III is to support EA regional and US government goals in improving stability along EA’s border regions by strengthening the horizontal and vertical linkages within and between local, national and regional conflict management actors.
PEACE III will work with local implementing partners to build capacity of community peace leaders and organizations while strengthening inter-personal and inter-communal collaboration at all levels
Pact is seeking to recruit dynamic, qualified and experienced individuals to fill the following position:
Position Title: Capacity Development Officer
Supervises: None
Location: Nairobi
Job Summary: To develop the capacity of Pact partners in the PEACE III project by providing high quality information, training and development support.
Roles and Responsibilities
- To conduct capacity assessments for local partners and develop institutional strengthening plans to inform capacity development support for each partner
- Deliver effective capacity development support to local partners using appropriate strategies to adequately respond to the institutional strengthening needs of the organization including training, mentoring and coaching, systems and policy development etc.
- To support partners in the process of reviewing and updating key organizational policies such as governance, human resources and administration
- To monitor progress on implementation of local partners’ capacity development plans and follow up as needed to ensure all planned activities are implemented.
- To provide targeted mentoring support to partners through regular assessments and specific advice
- To work with colleagues to implement systems for measuring, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of capacity building approaches.
- To contribute to cross-organization initiatives including bid/funding proposals
- To perform any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant social science discipline.
- Professional qualification in Organizational Development
- At least three (3) years’ relevant work experience in a similar position.
- Experience working with USAID funded peace-building programs will be an added advantage.
Competencies
- Ability to conduct organizational capacity assessments and developing plans to address the capacity needs.
- Ability to plan for and support delivery of training in various aspects of institutional strengthening such as leadership and governance, strategic planning, resource mobilization, financial management, advocacy, networking and alliance building.
- Ability to use mentoring and coaching to strengthen organizational capacity.
- Ability to support development of organizational policies and systems.
- Ability to prepare progress reports on capacity development results
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong facilitation skills
- Experience in writing program progress reports for donors
- Excellent computer skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision.
- Strong team orientation.
