General
Functions:
Under
the overall supervision of the Head of Sub Office (HSO) Dadaab and the direct
supervision of the Shelter Program Officer, Dadaab, the incumbent will be
responsible for providing technical support and coordination of surveying works
for the shelter activities in Dadaab as follows.
Duties
and responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Essential
Functions
- Conduct traverse
surveying and establish surveying control networks for vertical and
horizontal measurement and tie with the existing beacons that fall within
the region, e.g. 89/A/84, BPST40 and BPSA39.
- Demarcation of
boundaries of blocks, individual plots, right of ways, etc. using total
station or other surveying instruments.
- Prepare and
compile survey data and information including locations of benchmarks,
coordinates, elevations, etc.
- Supervises the
contracted surveying teams during the site survey and plotting of the
project site.
- Assist in the
preparation of GIS and database.
- Assist in the
implementation of project activities in relation to the shelter project at
the relevant sites identified in the field by providing technical
assistance in order to maintain the approved design.
- Assist in
drafting and developing relevant technical documents related to the
program (i.e. drawings, plans, BoQs, etc.) and establish implementation
plans (weekly and monthly reports on shelter activities and trends, plan
of action, geographical matrix) etc
- Oversees the
setup of the required emergency shelter, ensuring the correct plotting and
quality of work.
- Takes daily
field trips to meet with site foremen and monitor the project progress.
- Ensure that
shelter implementation remains on schedule and if not, ensure corrective
measures are taken.
- In close
coordination with the Shelter Logistics Assistant, monitor procurement and
distribution of shelter materials.
- Attend relevant
technical meetings with UNHCR and other shelter providers as necessary.
- Ensure that
records of the stocks of materials in the field stores and office stores
are kept updated.
- Train, guides
and orients new field support staff involved in the implementation of
shelters.
- Maintains
regular liaison with relevant counterparts in Dadaab where and when
necessary.
- Regularly
updates the Program Manager on the progress of the shelter project.
- Perform any
other duties that may be required from time to time.
Desirable
Qualifications:
- Degree in Land
Surveying/Geomatics/Geodetic engineering with 5 years surveying experience
in land development and civil works project, and/or Civil Engineering with
7 years surveying experience in land development and civil works project.
- Proficient in
using the latest surveying equipments (total station, DGPS, etc.), GIS,
CAD and mapping applications and software.
- Mature
individual and able to work independently;
- Capable of
working under stress and in difficult conditions;
- Capable of
working well on own initiative and taking decisions;
- Computer
literate including knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office Suite Software.
Languages: Thorough knowledge
of English and Kiswahili. Knowledge of Somali is an advantage
