The
Capital Markets Authority (CMA) was set up in 1989 through an Act of Parliament
Cap. 485A Laws of Kenya.
The
CMA, which is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal, was
constituted and inaugurated in 1990.
The
CMA is a statutory agency charged with the prime responsibility of regulating
the development of orderly, fair and efficient capital markets in Kenya.
It
licenses and supervises market intermediaries, conducts on-site and off-site
market surveillance and enforces compliance, and promotes market integrity and
investor confidence.
The
vision of the Authority is “To be a world class regulator of a vibrant capital
market.”
The
Board of Directors intends to fill the position of the Chief Executive of the Authority. Interested and

Job
Summary
Reporting
to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive will provide visionary
leadership in the regulation, development and implementation of strategies
designed to effectively address emerging issues, risks and opportunities in the
capital markets so as to safeguard investor confidence and the integrity of the
market place.
The

Core
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop
policies , strategies and programmes designed to transform Kenya’s capital
markets into a world class emerging market
- Direct
and exercise overall control of the Authority’s operations to ensure that
its activities are managed in a professional, efficient and effective
manner in order to meet its mission and objectives
- Ensure
compliance with laws governing capital markets
- Develop
and implement effective management policies and systems
- Provide
strategic leadership and direction in the formulation , development ,
implementation and evaluation of the Authority’s strategic plan
- Review
CMA’s organization structure , systems and procedures to ensure that these
are properly aligned with the strategic direction
- Oversee
the establishment of effective risk management and control systems in
order to improve organizational effectiveness
- Develop
and implement effective human resource management policies and systems in
order to improve organizational effectiveness
- Develop
and implement an effective communication and public relations strategy to
ensure that the market players have access to the information to make
informed investment decisions
- Participate
in the formulation of cross border , regional and global initiatives aimed
at regulatory coordination and cooperation
- Any
other responsibilities as may be necessary to achieve the Authority’s
objectives
Minimum
Qualifications
- Master’s
Degree in a related field
- Professional
qualification and standing membership in a relevant professional body
- Over
ten (10) years senior management experience gained in securities and
financial markets environment
- Expertise
in strategic management and planning
