Programme Development Officer
Save the Children Sweden started working in Eastern and Central Africa in 1965. Today, we have offices in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Nairobi, Kenya; and Khartoum, Sudan.
Through long-term child-rights based development programs, we focus on building the capacity of local people, community-based structures and organizations by working with local partners.
In
Eastern and Central Africa, we work with more than forty different
non-governmental organizations and government bodies.
All of the work in the region focuses on children’s rights, and tackles issues that affect marginalized children. The core of the work focuses on children affected by conflict, education, discrimination, abuse, exploitation, and HIV/AIDS.
Our
focus also includes child participation and good governance in the best
interest of the child.
The Nairobi Regional Office is seeking a Programme Development Officer
The Programme Development Officer is a 3 month contract position until September 30, 2012. The position is available to start immediately.
The Programme Development Officer plays a key role in supporting the programme team in PM&E activities, proposal and report writing development and assistance.
The
Programme Development Officer will also ensure effective communications are
being provided to donors and other external bodies, as well as providing the
necessary assistance to the programme support team in supporting key
initiatives.
Description of tasks
Monitoring & Evaluation and Compliance
- Coordinate and facilitate SCS/SCI reporting cycle and support programme staff members in development and checking for consistency and compliance of reports with donor/SCS/SCI requirements
- Ensure that programme staff at regional and country office level are familiar with and correctly utilizes SCI and SCS M&E tools
- Review M&E information products and communicate their implications for programme implementation with a view to shaping programme direction
- Monitor and support the implementation of annual thematic M&E plans
- Supervise monitoring and evaluation processes and ensure quality and timely periodic production of M&E information products in line with requirements
- Design and develop ToRs together with Programme persons for studies/surveys/evaluations
- Organising of PME related events and exercises; where necessary culminating in the collation and editing of learning outputs
Programme
development support
- Follow up with the programme team to ensure timely development of proposals to secure funding
- Quality assure and finalise programme proposals to key donors
- Quality assure programme reports completed by programme staff and studies/surveys/evaluations by external consultants
- Develop a communication mapping tool on SCS projects to external donors and partners
- Provide assistance to the programmes team in campaign assistance as required
- Assist in the preparation of SCS updates on activities in the region to NGOs, civil society, and communities
- Assist as needed in coordinating with and providing updates to relevant UN agencies
- As Programme Development Officer you will report to the Deputy Regional Director.
Required
qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Communications, Public Relations or similar field
- 2 -3 years experience in a role incorporating monitoring and evaluation, communications OR fundraising, preferably within a NGO
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Prior experience with SC considered an asset
- Good understanding of programme, financial and operational management processes
- Good understanding of monitoring and evaluation systems
