The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, (AKUH,N) a premier tertiary teaching hospital, is fast growing with a network of over 40 multi-site medical centers in East Africa and a state-of-the-art Heart and Cancer Centre in Nairobi.
Applications are invited for the following full time positions.
1. Optician
Reporting to the Director, Outreach Division, AKUH,N, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the ordering of all eye-related products and ensure that they are fitted, adjusted and repaired properly.
The incumbent will also be responsible for designing and fitting special devices.
- Taking eye and facial measurements to correctly interpret prescriptions
- Guiding patients when selecting frames for proper fit and styling
- Inserting, removing and caring for contact lenses
- Advising patients on any necessary repairs or adjustments
- Maintaining displays
- Basic bookkeeping duties associated with tracking patient’s orders and recording purchases and other necessary information for each patient
- Preparing work orders for optical laboratory
- Ensuring that all orders arrive and are to the specifications of the patient
Skills, Knowledge and experience:
- A Diploma in Optical Technology from a reputable Institution with registration from the relevant Kenyan Board.
- S/he should have at least two (2) year’s work experience with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
2. Clinical Officer, Ophthalmics
Reporting to the Director, Outreach Division, AKUH, N the clinical officer will be responsible for the assessment and diagnosis of patients who present for oculo – vision assessment and advice on a treatment plan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the assessment and management of ophthalmic patients including both regular and emergency care
- Participate in the review and development of appropriate policies and procedures for patients’ health care to formulate best practice guidelines.
- Periodically initiate and participate in clinical research activities, institutional quality improvement and patient safety activities.
Skills, knowledge & experience:
- A Diploma in Clinical Medicine with post basic training in Ophthalmology and cataract surgery.
- S/he should have at least three (3) year’s work experience.
- Registration with the relevant Council in Kenya with a valid practicing license is essential.
- S/he should have the ability to do minor ophthalmic procedures as well as possess excellent inter-personal and organizational skills.
