Context of the mission: Médecins du Monde (MdM) is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable populations, the world over, including France.

Duties 

He / she will, with the program team, ensure the following responsibilities.
 

1. Perform daily medical activities in the clinic in Drop In Center
  • Welcome the patients, prepare the medical records and sort patients depending on degree of gravity and refer to the clinic urgently if needed.
  • Perform nursing care in assigned position:
  1. take vital signs of the patients before consultation
  2. Carry out wound care / dressing
  3. Assist clinician in collecting blood samples and other samples for HIV, STI  and OIs when necessary
  4. Provide Hepatitis B vaccination
  5. Provide medication to patients based on medical prescription and fill the pharmacy data accordingly
  • Control the medical equipment and maintain clinic hygiene and equipment standards to a high level in accordance with best practice, ensure sterilization of medical instruments.
  • Handle patients’ charts, store and file the records.
  • Provide  and perform :
  1. Pre- and post-test HIV counselling as well as tests.
  2. Pre and post-test Hepatitis counselling as well as tests
  3. Perform ART/TB counselling and adherence follow up
  • Participate in mobile clinic and other campaigns
2. Perform specialized counselling activities for patients
  • Organize proactively individual counselling sessions (VCT, ART, Methadone) for patients on request or as referred by outreach workers
  • Set up a strict follow-up of those patients
  • Pro-actively involve family members, relatives and friends of the patients if required, taking prior patient’s agreement.
  • Regularly consult outreach team to discuss on individual cases as the need arise
  • Participate in decision making process to refer (with clinical officer) patients to specialist services if required
  • Respect at all times patient requests and confidentiality.
  • Organize proactively collective support groups (PLH, ART, Partner, Methadone etc.) on a regular basis in collaboration with other staffs
3. Participate in Training and sensitization activities
  • Participate in monthly peer trainings and sensitization of local stakeholders on request
4. Data collection and information management
  • Collect information on counselling, blood tests according to MdM data collection tools
  • Support the data clerk in getting proper information by maintaining the (systematic) patients’ chart flow among the consultation room, counselling room and mobile clinic
  • Maintain confidentially of patients files and keep the clinic data well organized
  • Ensure systematic filing of lab results
  • Update the death register of patients.
  • Provide input to his/her line-manager in preparation of monthly report.
5. Perform other duties upon request
  • Participate in weekly meetings and other program related meetings.
  • Perform cash management for costs related to referral
  • Promote skills and knowledge transfer to other MDM staff, eventually replicating the contents of attended trainings.
  • Behave professionally; showing at all times respect and empathy for patients / target group.
  • Show initiative, participate in developing/adapting MDM strategy to target group’s needs

Line of management: He/she works inside the project’s HR organizational chart. (See related document).
 
Line manager: Clinical Officer, Harm Reduction (answerable to Program coordinator)
    
Background of the Candidate

Sex: Male / Female
 
Nationality: Kenya
 
Language: English (fluent),Swahili (fluent)
 
Humanitarian Experience: Experience in similar position at least 3 years 
Experience in working with marginalized population preferably people who use drug
 
Computer: Able to use Windows environment (word, excel)efficiently

Skills Required :
  • Degree/diploma in Nursing
  • High national diploma [HND] / Degree/ diploma in counselling
  • Working experience in hospital settings  or similar experiences on INGO (international NGO)
  • Working experience with most at risk populations (MARPs)/key affected population
  • Ability to work quickly, under pressure, and with short deadlines
  • Necessity to manage priorities and to adapt them daily according to the context
  • Ability to manage own tasks
  • Must demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing requirements.
Personal skills required:
  • Excellent nursing and counselling skills
  • Ability to listen and share decisions
  • Flexibility, Reactivity, anticipation, adaptability, initiativeness
  • Non-judgemental  attitude towards (injecting) drug use and (injecting) drug users
  • Respecting confidentiality of beneficiaries and security of data bases
  • Good communication skills
  • Report writing (an asset)
