VSO Jitolee is a member of the VSO Federation based in Nairobi with an East African regional mandate to promote volunteerism and recruit skilled professionals to serve as volunteers in VSO programmes in 44 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific.
In addition, VSO Jitolee contributes to Kenya’s national development through international volunteers who work with local partners across the country in the areas of disability, secure livelihoods and health. VSO Jitolee is an independent INGO registered in Kenya and governed by a local board.
We are looking for highly motivated young Kenyans eager to get hands-on learning experience in development work to come and participate in our internship programme.
We currently require an International Volunteer recruitment Intern
VSOJ’s international volunteering programme works as part of a larger recruitment network in the VSO federation and seeks to work to the standards that are set internationally to meet quality recruitment targets. VSOJ currently recruits volunteers mainly from Kenya and Uganda; and also provides resettlement support to Returned Volunteers (RV).
The International Volunteer recruitment Intern will work with the recruitment team to support:
Enquiries and preliminary interview
· Sift through
applications and CVs received for initial short listing.
· Do summaries of CVs
for those invited for preliminary interviews
· Invite candidates for
preliminary interviews
· Arrange the CVs
received according to the skill area
· Respond to
applications that do not meet the baselines
· Follow up on pending
issues after volunteer assessment
Matching
and Placement
· Follow-up on
volunteer pending documentation (e.g certificates, police clearance, photos.)
· Send volunteer
documentation to Programme Offices
Volunteer
Training and Preparation
· Training logistics –
invitations, follow-up, materials, transport (volunteers and trainers)
Resettlement
· Collate Returned
Volunteers (RV) database
· Compile RVs responses
on how they would like to be involved with VSO
· Organisation of
logistics of RV events - RV forums and weekend
· Packaging of the
resettlement packages
Documentation
support
· Capture RV voices on
video and audio
· Write scripts to be
used for capturing RV voices
· Track and document
volunteer journey for VSOJ volunteers based in Kenya
The person
The ideal person will have recently completed a bachelor’s course in social studies and interested in obtaining relevant experience working with people especially in recruitment.
S/he will be able to write and communicate well, document experiences through video and audio, and have good IT skills and ability to use databases.
S/he will have a good understanding of development issues and an appreciation of the role of volunteers in development issues and be a good team player with a high degree of personal commitment and integrity, enthusiasm and the ability to give and receive feedback.
Also important is awareness of diversity issues, self drive and ability to work effectively with minimum supervision.
Terms of Reference
We treat internships in VSOJ as unpaid job opportunities that provide the ideal candidate with career entry learning experience. You will be supported with a daily allowance to cater for transport and lunch. You will be expected to abide in the VSOJ policies and code of conduct while working with VSOJ. Internship periods may vary between three to six months and will not exceed six months.
