The
Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), in collaboration with the Jomo Kenyatta
University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and TechnoServe (K) are
pleased to invite entrepreneurs in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise
(MSME) sector in Kenya to apply for participation in JITIHADA II, which is
running up to July 2011.
JITIHADA is the brand name Kenya’s National Business Plan Competition, which was launched in 2009. It is a subcomponent of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Competitiveness Project, a World Bank funded initiative under the Ministry of Industrialization.
The primary objective of the project is to increase productivity and employment in the MSME sector in Kenya. The Second Phase of Jitihada (JITIHADA II) is running from June 2011 to June 2012. JITIHADA II lays emphasis on value addition in the MSME.
Value Addition
Value addition is improvement and enrichment of a product or service before it is offered to customers. JITIHADA II is placing emphasis on value addition within the manufacturing understanding of the notion of value adding.
Manufacturing involves changing of a product, usually from a raw material form, or from a form close enough to raw material, to a finished good. Manufacturing may also involve production of semi finished goods which another person, or firm, can convert into finished goods.
Detailed understanding of manufacturing in the Kenyan context can be gleaned from the Kenya International Standard of Industrial Classification (ISIC Revision 3) of June 2002.
Further details may also be obtained from the JITIHADA Secretariat at the Kenya Institute of Management, the lead implementing partner in JITIHADA II.
Eligible entrepreneurs wishing to participate in this process are advised to seek further information from the KIM at the address indicated below.
Information is also available on the KIM website at www.kim.ac.ke
Closing date for application is 30 November 2011.
