Summary:
The Malaria Immunology Programme in the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme comprises a number of research groups whose focus is understanding how humans develop immunity to malaria.
The person appointed will work on the collection, processing and storage of clinical samples collected from both the hospital and field.
They will also assist in the running of the parasite culture facility, the setting up and maintenance of long term parasite cultures and other essential services within the laboratory.

The job holder in this post reports to the Malaria Immunology Project Manager.

- Ensuring samples are collected efficiently,
- Processing of samples in the laboratory
- Ensuring the accuracy of patient data and the completeness of the consent procedure,
- Maintaining and setting up long term parasite cultures,
- Taking initiative during the day to day running of the culture facility
Skills
and Competence:
Qualification
Qualification
- Must have an Ordinary Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Experience:
- Laboratory experience (parasite or cell culture)
Desirable
Criteria
- Be registered with the Kenyan Board of Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists.
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Laboratory Practices and regulatory /accreditation agency requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of Laboratory safety and infectious control procedures and practices including standard precautions and hazard chemical handling.
