The
International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Kenya serves vulnerable populations in
the Turkana and Garissa regions as well as in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
The
IRC implements programs in the areas of comprehensive primary health care,
nutrition, protection, peace building, water and sanitation and hygiene (WASH),
HIV/AIDS prevention, response to gender based violence, disaster risk reduction
(DRR), livelihoods and governance.

are invited for the position of Adheherence
Counselor to be based in Kakuma.
Working under the guidance and supervision of the HIV Focal Person, the Adherence Counselor will be directly responsible for:

Key
responsibilities
- Conduct
daily assessment, observation and triaging of patients attending the CCC
clinic
- Ensure
follow up of all HIV/TB patients in liaison with PwP facilitators.
- Provide
adherence counseling to all patients on HAART using the 5A’s approach in
adherence
- Conduct
routine nutrition assessment of patients and monitor their BMI’s
- Strengthen
the existing linkages between HTC , CCC and PwP
- Provide
appropriate PwP messages to patients based on their needs at facility
level
- Strengthen
the existing community based structures i.e. patient support groups, buddy
system and community PwP intervention
- Offer
counseling on reproductive health services including FP to patients and
promote uptake
- Ensure
that all assessment and treatments provided are properly documented on
patient’s files.
- Maintain
an accurate and updated records keeping system in the HIV/TB Program.
- Attend
the monthly program staff meetings.
- Mentor
and support refugee staffs attached to the clinic through on-the-job
training
- Provide
health talks to patients/clients on day-to-day basis.
- In
liaison with other partners ensure holistic need of the patients are met
using the existing referral mechanism
- Keep
all program assets under their disposal safe and ensure their good use
- Ensure
all patients information (registers and files) are kept confidential
- Liaise
with the DASCO and ensure that patients are managed as per current
protocols and regimens.
- Carry
out any other tasks that may be assigned by your supervisor.
Required
Qualifications:
- Clinical
Officer registered with the Clinical officers Council in Kenya or Diploma
in Nursing registered with Nursing Council of Kenya
- Certificate
or diploma in psychology an added advantage
- Trained
in HIV counseling
- Trained
on Rational use of ARV/OI drugs
- Good
communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge
in computer packages – Microsoft office, Ms Excel.
- Work
experience in a high volume CCC clinic.
- Ability
to work in hardship areas (Previous experience in a Camp setting will be
an added advantage).
- Fluency
in Turkana/Somali will be an added advantage
