Description: This is a unique opportunity working with Mercy Corps Social Venture team to test a social business for spinoff and scale while keeping our employees and customers happy. 

We’re looking for a results-driven leader and entrepreneur who has demonstrated experience growing a service company and who is ready to grow Kibarua Now to at least 10,000 clients in the next twelve months while continuously refining and adapting the model based on feedback to show business can scale.
 

Objectives: We are seeking an innovative entrepreneur that can provide the executive operational, technical, and sales leadership to secure and grow the business. 

While not a developer, you should be able to speak to technical professionals about platform capabilities and possible trade-offs to product requirements.

• Overall accountability for Kibarua Now meeting its success metrics.
• Set operational and strategic plans to execute the company's vision.
• Design and build the technology platform.
• Build and lead an exceptional start-up team based in Nairobi.
• Cultivating business partners in the delivery channels that expand the reach of Kibarua Now for scaling and creation of new products/services
• Cultivating value propositions and winning sales in Kibarua Now's revenue generation model selling service products to employers by engaging youth and women
• Contingent on funding and quality of results, continue to lead Kibarua Now for spinoff and scaling

Responsibilities:
 

The CEO will drive the prove phase focusing on:

• ensuring timely and fiscally responsible management of Kibarua Now
• supervising business implementation and providing the necessary technical and administrative support to spin-off and scale
• proving out the financial mechanics of the business model for additional products and services
• scaling to a minimum of 10,000 clients with satisfaction rates above 95%
• Proving social impact on tasker incomes with clear metrics
• Build and create a strong pipeline for continued growth beyond 10,000 to enable team to secure seed funding for continued growth
• Planning and execution continually refining business model and plan based on learnings
• Revise business plan/venture capital pitch based on lessons
• Define list of potential funders for investment in business
• Build pitch decks and present to Social Venture Fund and outside funders for seed capital for Scaling Phase
• Provide regular progress reports to Board and Social Ventures Team

Requirements:

• Entrepreneur with proven success recruiting and cultivating talent at the board and staff level
• Previous experience as a startup-CEO is desirable.
• Must be able & willing to work for salary as equity is not an option in this particular business stage.
• Demonstrated success and belief in using technology to drive social outcomes
• Strong, metrics-driven approach to organizational management
• Previous experience managing a software development team a plus
• Strong experience with marketing and/or sales.
• Adequate experience and knowledge of corporate financing including fundraising capital to propel and sustain growth
• Ideally have experience and coming from the e-commerce industry and should have experience promoting conventional and digital advertising technology.
• Adjust the operational and strategic plans accordingly in building the company's brand, developments in the industry and with possible current and emerging competitors.
• Highly collaborative work style that tends toward lifting up teammates instead of self-promotion
• MBA, MPP or other advanced degree highly desirable

Kibarua Now is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercy Corps, an international NGO. 

The CEO will work closely with Mercy Corps’ Social Venture team’s advisors as well as Advisory Board.
