The Australian Government has an ambitious agenda to rapidly increase its development assistance across Africa while also deepening its engagement with key countries to achieve meaningful development impacts.
One of AusAID’s core principles is to accelerate progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The aid program seeks to cover the entire African continent and focus on ways in which Australia can make a significant difference in Africa’s efforts to meet the MDGs.
AusAID has a presence in Nairobi, Pretoria, Harare, Accra and Addis Ababa.
The priority sectors for the East and Horn of Africa region include humanitarian assistance, maternal and child health, food security, tertiary education through scholarships and community development programs. AusAID also has a continent-wide initiative (the Australia-Africa Partnerships Facility) that aims to support partnerships between Australian and African institutions in priority areas.
