Safaricom Senior BB Tx Engineer Job in Kenya

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Core Network Planning & Support Department within the Technical & IT Division.

In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Senior BB Tx Planning Engineer
Ref: TECHNICAL_BBPE_JUNE_2011

Reporting to the Senior Manager- Tx Planning & Support, the holder of the position will model, plan, design, optimize and management of reliable transport/transmission network systems in support of timely backbone transmission requirements.

Key Responsibilities

·       Modeling and planning of Transport systems/network and respective capacity planning and analysis.

·       Take a lead role in the development and application of packet and cell based transport in safaricom network;

·       Equipment planning and subsequent transport space management ;

·       Ensure projects with suppliers are carried out in line with the approved processes and procedures to ensure that the key milestones are attained/flagged to attain project delivery timelines;

·       Ensuring equipment space and power availability for planned systems;

·       Liaise with implementation department during site surveys and visits to ensure timely project completion in accordance to set timeframes

·       Approval of transmission/transport designs and plans for required bandwidth for projects from leased transmission capacity vendors.

·       Perform transmission/transport trials, equipment/systems parameters checks and evaluation and subsequent recommendations for approval and adoption of new equipment, systems and technologies into the network.

·       Cost effectiveness in relation to OPEX of trials introduced in the network.

Minimum requirements

·       University degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering;

·       5 years experience in telecommunications environment of which 3 years must have been involved in installations/commissioning and planning of major telecom projects especially in the transmission field;

·       Conversant with the design, implementation and operation of packet and ATM based networks;

·       Must have in-depth knowledge of packet based data networks

·       Have good understanding of mobile network. GSM/WCDMA knowledge is an added advantage;

·       In depth project management skills using MS Project.
