The position
Under the responsibility of the Program Director (PD) and in collaboration with the Technical Coordination unit and the Support Services hosted in the regional office, the Field Coordinator (FC) has the overall responsibility of implementing Handicap International’s (HI) mandate in North Eastern Province of Kenya, with a priority focus on Dadaab based interventions.
He/She will be ensuring the overall oversight and leadership of the existing development project(s), proper representation of the organisation vis-Ã -vis external stakeholders; also, he/she will be force of proposition and participation to the keys analysis and future orientations of Dadaab / North Eastern Province projects and activities.

The position

Key responsibilities:
- To ensure a proper representation in North Eastern Kenya, and more particularly in the Dadaab area
- To participate in the preparation/review/evaluation of the Kenya/Somalia programme’s multiannual strategy
- To ensure smooth running of the area interventions and to make sure the set objectives are achieved and services delivered to the beneficiaries in a timely and efficient manner
- To ensure accountability and knowledge management are considered at all stages of the project cycle with a particular attention to project implementation
- To spearhead Human Resource Management towards staff empowerment
- To maintain quality communication and reporting
- To ensure security at field level of personnel and assets
- Ensure overall financial management at station level
Qualifications
and skills required
- Relevant degree to humanitarian work
- Significant experience in project management with at least 3 years of managerial responsibilities is necessary;
- Experience in budgeting, financial forecasting and reporting required;
- Strong skills in Monitoring and Evaluation;
- Proven ability to manage team at field level in a complex environment;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a team;
- Very good cross cultural skills;
- Strong knowledge and experience with humanitarian guidelines and principles;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English);
- IT Proficiency is a must (MS Office…) ;
- Ability to multi-task and effectively handle stressful situations;
- Ability to live and work in conditions of limited comfort and leisure activities;
Desirable
(knowledge/experience/behaviour):
- Experience in working in hardship environment;
- Experience in an emergency relief context;
- Knowledge of the Horn of Africa;
- Prior experience in an Islamic country/environment
- Experience in a refugee camp context
