The USAID - funded Competitiveness and Trade Expansion (COMPETE) Project is currently seeking qualified candidates for a full-time position of Program Coordinator.

The objective of COMPETE is to reduce barriers to regional and international trade and increase competitiveness and trade in selected value chains in the region including specialty coffee, cotton and textiles, grains, staple foods, and other high value chains.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the full back-stopping of COMPETE technical staff while they are in traveling within the COMPETE regional areas.

He/She is to perform administrative, logistic and programmatic duties as assigned to ensure the smooth support of the COMPETE program.

The post of assignment is the COMPETE Nairobi office and the term of the contract will be 15-18 months.

Specific tasks include:
  • Provide logistical and programmatic support to the COMPETE technical team.
  • Ensure compliance with contract and US government regulations through experience, good judgment and research, and obtain appropriate project and contract officer approvals.
  • Oversee local finances and budget as they relate to the technical team.
  • Assist the COMPETE Knowledge Management Specialist to develop databases which will track program activities and partner contributions
  • Establish and maintain a system for filing and archiving of all relevant technical/administrative documentation.
  • In liaison with commodity leaders, organize regional workshops, meetings and conferences
  • Assist with preparation of COMPETE quarterly and annual reports to USAID.
  • Assist with preparing letters of response to requests for information.
  • Assist the technical team staff with preparation of presentations and technical documents
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

1. Experience – Preferably two years demonstrated administrative experience with an international assistance program with similar job tasks and responsibilities as outlined above. Experience with other USAID funded projects is desired.

2. Education – Undergraduate degree from a 4 year university in a relative academic field.

3. Language/Communications Skills – Fluent English and strong writing skills required.

4. Computer Skills - Advanced skills in using word processing (Microsoft WORD) and spreadsheet (Microsoft EXCEL) as well as electronic communications programs.

5. Interpersonal Skills - Strong interpersonal skills

6. Self-Motivation and Guidance - Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation in handling all assigned tasks with ability to work independently and efficiently.
