Brief description

The position of Managing Director encompasses overall sales, and financial activities, including planning, directing, or coordinating operational activities at the highest level of management with the help of subordinate employees and staff managers.

As a small and growing new business, the role of MD will be directly involved in business development including the negotiation of customer agreements and supplier contracts, serve as government liaison and oversee regulatory interactions, and provide management of operational staff and associated procedures.

Tasks

• Direct and coordinate activities of businesses or departments concerned with production, pricing, sales, or distribution of products
• Direct and coordinate organization's financial and budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency
• Negotiate or approve contracts and agreements with suppliers, distributors, customers, government agencies, and other organizational entities
• Analyze operations to evaluate performance of the company and its staff in meeting objectives, and to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change
• Confer with Owner/Chairman and board members, organization officials, and staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, and resolve problems
• Prepare budgets for approval, including those for funding and implementation of programs;
• Oversee accountant(s) and financial records
• Review reports submitted by staff members and create summary report to recommend approval or to suggest changes to Owner / Chairman

Qualifications and requirements

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in business
• Minimum 10 years management experience in East Africa, preferably in customer-facing operational management roles (aquaculture / fish farm experience a plus)
• Experience working with international organizations (private sector)
• Fluency in English and Swahili required; Kinyarwanda and French (preferred)
• Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
• Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
• Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying and to use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions

Lines of communication

• This position reports to the Owner / Chairman of Lakeside Fish Farm, Ltd.
• This position has decision making authority with final financial approval by Owner / Chairman

Working conditions

• This position is full-time operating onsite at Lakeside Fish Farm, on Lake Mirayi in Bugesera, Rwanda, with travel within Rwanda and the region as business demands Compensation
• Total compensation will be competitive based on industry averages in the East African market
• Total compensation will include a portion of guaranteed base salary and a portion that is dependent on performance against set target objectives (e.g. sales revenue, etc)
